Mine would have to be 4 (2), although 6 (3) was also amazing. But my favourite 3D one would have to be 9, by far. 7 was overrated, and 8 was shit.

Which is your favourite, Escapist?

[sub]Also, fun fact: In the new Scott Pilgrim game, in Wallace's secret shop, you can find items such as "Never-Ending Fantasy" and "Speedy The Porcupine".[/sub]

The one thats the last one! SO final fantasy 100000
The game was originally named Final Fantasy because Square were going bankrupt and expected it to be their 'final' game (and it had a fantasy setting). However, the game was a hit!

And the rest is very long-winded history...

Final Fantasy XIII for me. The only one able to hold my attention long enough for me to finish it. So much so that I did twice.
Also, Sazh is awesome.

As for the OP's fun fact, although I did notice them, I'm amused to be reminded. I thank you for the brief amusement.

Tactics. Somewhat against the spirit of the thread, but, I never really liked any FF beyond number 1. And even then, not as much as Tactics.

Nah, it's very in spirit of the thread.

Does Tactics have the words "Final Fantasy" in front of it? Yes.

Is Tactics awesome? Hell yes.

FFVI is currently my favorite. So much better than FFVII. I don't understand why VII got so much recognition as the best game of all time when VI is better all around. The battles are faster and more fun, the story is better, the world is easier to navigate. Also...

I thought 7 was rather shitty compared to the hype, and I have to say after all this time, my favourite is still the first. Crystal Chronicles was incredibly fun though - I'd probably say it's my favourite 3D one. I haven't played all the FF games by any means though.

To those who've played the original Tactics: Borrow, steal, buy, fabricate a PSP. Pick up FFT: War of the Lions. It is an improvement in almost every way to the original Tactics.

Especially the cutscenes. Womever was the art director for the new cutscenes was awesome. Here's one:

Fully voiced, awesome colored pencil-style art, and reworked dialogue/script.

Either VI or X as a personal favourite, though I poured so many hours into XI it'd be unfair to not give it a mention

I agree that 7 is overrated, but it's still probably my favourite
maybe not the best, but the favourite
10 had some of the best elements for me

plus if anyone wants a free lobotomy all you have to do is say that X-2 is the best

FFXII

I loved the deep customization of the Gambits, wonderful areas I could explore, all vast and different, the mix of Star Wars and FF Tactics influenced politics, the Stillshrine of Myriam, Rabanastre the city of merchants, the deep and hardcore extra areas of the mines including Gilgamesh, the Amazon forest bunnies, the hunting, the long travel times, etc...

What an adventure! I put 150 hours into that game.

Maybe I'll play 13 eventually, but it looks quite disappointing.
Totally agree with you XII is my fave then VI then X...and if 12 is your fave 13 will probably be as frustrating for you as it was for me :(...the world doesn't feel big, shiny and well detailed yes but only one "Chapter" had a large non linear area to explore :( I loved the real time combat here and the control I had over everything this I didn't feel in 13. Yes I had the option of controlling paradigms, yes the system is efficient but it lacked in urgency and excitement for me...

I enjoyed aspects of 13 but if this is where FF is going it is a truly sad day for me :(

I'm going to be very unoriginal here, and I apologize upfront.

VII is, by far, my favorite. I would explain why, but my FF fanboy comrades have been explaining why for the past 13 years, so I'm sure you've heard it all.
