I have many favourites but the game I like the most at the moment has got to be Fable 2, I love the gameplay and the freedom (Despite not being much) and the story is engaging and interesting though it can get rather boring after you've completed it. What do you think? what's your favourite game of the year?.

Welcome to the escapist! Enjoy our friendly forums and fine selection of cakes*

On topic, at the moment my favourite game is probably fallout 3, at this point I really want something to come along and knock it from it's perch, but I don't know it that'll happen this year.

*The cake part was a lie, hehe.

Do you mean games which received the game of the year award?

If so, Oblivion.

EDIT: Welcome to the escapist!

Brütal Legend was my favorite game of 2009.
Seriously now, I'd have to go with either Dynasty Warriors 6 or Disgaea 3.

So far this year I suppose I was most impressed by Persona 4 - released in March 2009 in Europe, so it counts.

Brilliant characters; solid, addicting gameplay mechanics; a deep and compelling story.

My only complaint, and what I found myself wishing for, was to be given more say in the world that I palyed in. It's a JRPG, and I know that's how they like to do things traditionally, but I wanted to be more a part of the world than I was allowed.

Oh yeah, Welcome to The Escapist!

My vote goes to H.A.W.X. I don't know why, but I just had a ton of fun playing that game. That, combined with the fact that most of the games I have gotten or played this year were from previous years, makes H.A.W.X. my choice.

It's still, and always will be (in my book, anyway) Starcraft.
All hail to the RTS that actually worked the way an RTS should. Well, aside from Age of Empires and Mythology.

From the previous 12 month period, my favourite game has been Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty. From 2009, I don't think I've bought any games released since January.

All the good stuff comes out from the end of this month onwards.

If you count remakes, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is my favorite game released so far this year.

If not, the only other game I have purchased is Pokemon Platinum. It's been an incredibly slow and boring year so far.

2009 isn't over yet...
I'm still looking forward to the release of the new wolfenstien game and a couple of others.

For me game of the year more involves replay factor than it was just awesome the first run through. Those are the games that are rare. I really enjoyed fallout 3, but playing through a second time just to push the karma the other way just wasn't compelling to me.

I'll agree with monkeyman on mirror's edge for the moment simply because it was trying something new and I did get quite a bit of replay out of it running from time and competing against the other online times.
Which sadly at this point have basically reached as fast as they possibly could be.
