Right, this can be for any game (FPS's, RPG's, TF2 etc.), and might be nice to have one for each.

For me:

TF2: Either Sniper or Pyro, because I rock and it's fun respectively. However, seems no one defends much so I've ended up being an engineer most of the time

FPS's: I'd like to be a sniper most of the time, but I get too worried about being snuck up on. Probably Enjoy being an assault-type class most of all.

RPG's: Mage, because I get to send out loads of cool stuff to kill enemies. Shame about the crappy armour though.

How about you guys?

Edit: Just thought, this should really be in the gaming forum. Sorry! :(

Hmmm.

I don;t play many online games and the games that I play singleplayer kind of lock you into one man class. (Commander of the Armies RTS, Mayor Whathisface in Sim City, Gordon Freeman of Gordan Freeman etc.)
On Online games, I mix up what unit I use. Being good at everyone is better than being awesome on only-one.

I like being a sniper or any class with a good shotgun. If I could get a class with a good sniper rifle and a good shotgun I would never use any other class. It's a pity that those two things seem to be mutually exclusive.

RPGs: Mage. Hands down. Especially if they get really flashy destructive spells.

Anything that lets me fight from a distance and/or mock my enemies for being unable to hit me while I mess with their heads. Snipers, theifs, assasins, stealth classes ect.

I tend to pick classes based on moods, such as: If I'm pissed I pick something with highly destructive properties, if I'm more neutral then I go with something that I believe takes more skill, usually something relatively stealthy. Thing is those are usually the only two moods I'm in when I'm gaming so I either swing back and forth from highly stealthy and highly destructive with way too much frequency.

That's to do with class balance. A class that is effective at very long range is often crippled at short range to make things more fair.

Same here. Or Mage. Anything with magic.

on fps's i like being a sniper, or go berserk with the crappiest equipment possible

on rpg's i like being an assassin (as long as there's a crossbow and a poisoned knife, and lots of stealth habilities), or being a battle+healing mage.

on racing games i prefer vehicles with better acceleration than speed

on fighting games i go for the combo whore (ultimate mortal kombat 3's smoke ftw)

Yeah, I realize that. I can dream though, can't I?

Anything that lets me sneak around (thieves and rogues), kill from an insane distance (snipers), or lets me make explosions (mages typically and anything with rockets or grenades).

I'd have to say I like being an Immortal Pod Pilot, flying around in my spaceship, and my clone body made from other humans. With my concious mind stored on a global database system. That's awesome.

In RTS, I turtle like you wouldn't believe. I'll have anti-infantry backed by anti-vehicle, surrounding an artillery unit in front of an AA gun, and I'll have that in an overlapping patternm all around my base so that it's impossible to attack me without being in range of at least two guns at any given time (that's two guns effective against the unit, there are still the other, less efficient guns that may have them in range). In more brutal games, I'll up this a step and make them so close that at any given time three fire bases will be able to hit any target that isn't just coming into range now. While my enemies bounce off of my mighty walls, I build a legion. When the enemy is weak from futiley pounding on my gate, I attack. Needless to say I'm getting pretty good at Supreme Commander.

In FPS, I usually play whatever has the biggest gun, but in CoD4 I found I had quite a fondness for SMGs and the M16. I barely ever use the RPD anymore, but that M16 and I have quite a history.

Glad this is a GAMING class forum lol. My favorite would be Warrior or whatever front class (tank). Only because my first RPG character was a mage and I thought it was boring (it was some crappy 'ol 2D-er), then I got WoW and chose Warrior.

i do somthing very similar in SoCom i build boss units to cover then i build turrets along a choke point back them up with 3 static shields and some mobile shields then make a factory there build more artilary and then I build as many exparamental artilary units as posible ( they can hit any unit on the intire map) after that i destroy the prime armies from my victams nation and charge in with most of my troops... damn i just gave away my stratagy please dissregard everything you just read.

In FPS I go crazy with whatever machine gun I can find. M16, AK47, Railgun, Minigun, it doesn't matter. As long as I can go for the complete and total destruction of my enemy, and maybe overkill after that.
