Favourite moment from Dragonball

A few weeks ago, I watched the first disk set of DBZ Kai with some of my friends, and my love of Dragonball had been rekindled after having not thought of it for years. Recently I have been looking up scenes from Dragonball Z for nostalgia's sake; I forgot how epic this show was.

My favourite moment that I can remember is this one

Just because of the massive scale of the blast, which Vegeta had to adjust the aim of in order to avoid destroying the ENTIRE PLANET, and because of that "oh shit" face cell makes when the blast is fired.

I thought you meant the series Dragonball (like the first series), not the entire Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, and what ever else they have now. Well regardless the moment I remember most is the bit in Dragonball where Goku is going up some tower and is confronted with a maze where the walls move. I don't know why I remember that most of all though.

Trunk defeat/ killed Frieza with ease.

The dead Z members vs the deceased Ginyu Force.

Goku turning Super Saiyan for the first time.

Those are the ones I can think off at the moment.

My favorite part of Dragon Ball Z is the introduction of Future Trunks and the death of Metal Freeza and, King Cold...King Cole. Anyway, I've posted about this before so I won't post the video this time. Basically the previous episodes shows that Freeza is still alive and is coming to Earth, now with cybernetic enhancements that should make him stronger. When he gets there, he and his father King Cole find that another, hitherto unheard of Saiyan has just arrived on Earth: Trunks.

Next episode there is a short dialogue...then Trunks goes Super Saiyan and slashes Freeza to death, cutting him in half and beating a high-profile DBZ bad guy in a single episode as opposed to an entire freaking season. I think he even kills King Cole in that same episode which is unprecedented for DBZ! I liked DBZ as a kid but it always annoyed me how long it took to get through the fights and have the good guys kill the bad guys. Of course I was spoiled at the time with Fist of the North Star; the anime in which most bad guys were killed in the same episodes which introduced them (except for a couple like Shin, Raoh, Jagi and, Jackal off the top of my head)

When I was a kid, Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time was pretty much the best fucking thing that ever happened

The entirety of Son Gokuu's battle with Piccolo at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai. Brilliant fight choreography, the perfect blend of pre-Z martial arts and Z explosive attacks, and a satisfying climax with Gokuu finally winning the tournament (giving two dimensions to the fight; Gokuu wasn't only fighting to save the world from Piccolo's evil, but he was also fighting to achieve his dream of winning the tournament) after having kept you in tension towards the end.

Oh, and if anyone had a problem with the shitty filler (e.g. the drawn-out standoffs, the prolonged power-ups, etc.), then DBZ Kai would be perfect for you. Granted, it doesn't go past the Cell arc, but still. And FUNimation's English dub has genuinely improved.

Otherwise, the scene that has always stuck with me is Nappa tearing an F-14 apart from the inside out and destroying Earth's air force for fun.

8. Vegeta's "I DON'T CARE" moment
9. Goku's speech against Frieza
10. Whenever Bulma got naked.(Don't judge me!)

I can understand people saying Trunks was cool, but looking back on it the whole scene just gave me the uncomfortable feeling I was watching some poorly written self-insert fan fiction. Think about it. Deus Ex Machina character shows up, turns into the second ever Super Saiyan, is cocky but for good reason, absolutely destroys Freiza which took something like 20 episodes for everyone else to do, then reveals he's the son of vegeta. That has creepy, self-insert fan fiction written all over it.

However my personal favourite moments would be the ones with Kid Buu. He's holds a special place in my heart for terrifying, nightmare inducing villains of my childhood. Why? Because he's a child. He has no plans, no desires, he just destroys shit because it amuses him. He's the little child pulling a spiders legs apart because he has no idea that it's evil. He is pure. But pure doesn't mean good.

Not to mention he's the only villain that actually succeeded in destroying the earth. It was always close, but he's the only one that actually did it. Again, for no reason at all. He didn't even care. How fucking scary is that?

I like the bit where they spend 4 episodes constipated powering up.

Then they fight for 1/4 of an episode then talk some more.

I'm going on vague memories of watching Dragonball Z in high school but the standout moments are:

- The first time Goku goes Super Saiyan and defeats Frieza
- Vegeta revealing he can turn Super Saiyan
- Gohan's SSJ2 fight vs Perfect Cell

I only ever saw to the end of the Cell saga because when it was on TV in the 90s they'd only go ahead a half season at a time then start again, so over the course of 3 years I saw:

- From the start up to Goku defeating Vegeta and Nappa five times
- Up to Goku fighting Frieza four times
- Goku defeating Frieza up to midway through Cell Games three times
- Up to the end of the Cell saga twice

By the time they started airing the Buu saga I was just over it, so I'm sure there's some Buu saga episodes I missed, so I'm tempted to check out DB Kai just to get caught up. On the other hand I'm 29 years old and my care factor for Dragonball is waaaay down there now.

Trunks becoming stronger than Vegeta but being too slow to actually hit Cell
Kid Buu destroying the planet.

Goku turning SSJ3 for the first time. I felt so bad for Sean Schemmel's voice during that scene.
Majin Vegeta killing the spectators at the World Martial Arts Tournament.

Basically the whole fight between earth and the Saiyans but I think the high point for me was the Kamehameha vs the Galick Gun(or garlic or whatever the hell the name is supposed to be).
