Fairly simple. Your all time favourite piece of music from any videogame, old or new. Currently mine is from a game that is so, niche, that I could probably count the number of people that know about it on my fingers. Yet it is still one of my favourite final boss fight themes of all time. It's in two different parts for the two different phases of the boss fight, but I'm counting them as one piece. Because they work so well.

It starts off slow with the above bit, which is kind of a patience game as you try to remove the boss' armour. Then once it's vulnerable the real fight starts with the lower piece. The second piece really surprises you as it starts slow like the first piece of music then rams a truck through your living room.

I love both of these pieces so much, not just for how good they are, but because of their symbolism within the game as well. So what are your favourite pieces of music in videogames?

I own the game but have never really played it, I gave up when had couldn't even pass the tutorial, but I listen to the themes of the various fighters very often. Riptors my favorite because it sounds so threating, like this would be the Raptors National Anthem.

There are too many choices. So I'm going to have to go with a Top 3. They are as follows:
Every piece of music for this game was pure magic. A gem to find and play. A true representation of creating an atmosphere of sound.
Great music, questionable game play. Amon Tobin steps onto the games scene. And in the process causes a lot of companies to rethink how they create soundtracks.
A random mistake as the rest of the Front Missions have downright bland soundtracks. With 4 they accidentally hired a real musician.

Though the quality of the games is up for debate, I love the hell out of music from Final Fantasy. It's just so epic.

Pianos? Check. Female vocalist? Check. Awesome? Check.

And they somehow nail it again on 15 and the game isn't even out yet!

Moving away from JRPGs, Mass Effect has some of the best soundtracks ever. Especially 3.

Ok, the obvious ones:

Always been partial to this one as well:

Now, for something more obscure, Jill of the Jungle always had great music:

In many ways, it's a lost art coming up with music to play with ancient speakers.

Yeah, second that. Especially as you'd almost never hear a lot of the music, but they put the effort in anyway.

Now, shame about the actually game, especially the AI.

Those are some classy hits there Doctadoone. To bad I hate the Wii.

And still no game has had as greater opening theme as this one. I literally loaded up the game again just to hear it as a kid.

The Super Metroid intro theme was usually me best, but this one I found from Megaman Zero 4 is probably the most bad ass score I've heard from any game yet.

As i often have said once, i think the music is one third of the experience, the other two being visual and game mechanics

I'm a big fan of the music in the Ar Tonelico series, but Method_Replekia is probably one of my favourite songs:

Some context: Music is incredibly important in the Ar Tonelico world. It's like a programming language that
can be used to shape the world. This 'hymmn' is sung to charge your ultimate song magic, and it's not just your magic users singing, but every songstress connected to this satellite weapon that will be used to nuke your enemies from orbit. It's a great piece song magic to use during those important boss battles, or you know, to spice up the regular ones with pure epicness. Expect a lot of overkill once you unlock this. Oh, and yes, the whole thing is written in a fantasy language called Hymmnos, because of course it is.

Hand down the battle theme from FF4.

Its upbeat, its punchy, its inspiring... it really sells the whole 'You Are the Hero and You Are Motherfucking Awesome' vibe.

Video games should use brass (Or simulated brass) more often.

Yay, someone mentioned Front Mission 4. Not that it's soundtrack was anything legendary but it's just nice to see acknowledgement that it exists and is good.

Back on track, I can't claim one favourite over all because different pieces are good for different moods and scenes, but:
Perfect for a climactic battle against the moonlight atop a castle. And this isn't even the final one!
I haven't even played this and I can perfectly picture the area and setting.
Apologies for the shortness. No other song can get me as psyched up at the very start of a game.
1000 Years Ago... Superstition and the sword- Oh wait wrong Gargoyle. This one was betrayed by the Capcom he had sworn to protect.

Finally, Dancing Mad from Final Fantasy VI. All of it. Fierce Battle too, very good at emphasizing what kind of enemy you are facing here.

I will never it nail it down to just one.

It took me days to tackle Pokemon music [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.854751-Redlins-ramblings-POK-MON-Episode-1-Music] and figure out which generation had the best. I'm too lazy to tackle all my favourite game songs these days. XD

That would be the soundtrack to:

Wipeout

The various incarnations of Ridge racer up to Rage Rager

Sounds remarkably good for an old SNES tune

Guile's theme.

Basically the entirety of the Journey soundtrack. I could easily pick a specific song but it really does feel like it's meant to be taken as a whole. The music is a big part of why I love the game so much. It fits so perfectly and creates an amazing experience. To anybody who hasn't heard it, I recommend playing the game first. The first playthrough is incredible with both the game and music being new to the mind.
