So I played about 4 hours of Civilization 5 earlier today, and long story short I learned to admire its background music. Judging by the running order you can tell what happened.

Long story short, Russia attacked me, it didn't end well

Then Spain helps me :)

And then the Mongols, Hawaii and, strangely enough Austria steamroll the two of us (so basically everyone left on the map)

So since a thread about a single game's music would be dull, post your favourite video game music, or even just stuff you find yourself listening to right now.

I know there was a thread earlier about music, but I'm not sure its exactly the same, and as I'm typing right now I think I'm developing Alzheimer's since I remembered the thread when I started typing....

Here is the all time best boss music IMO:

A classic:

The most underrated music of all time, Indie games get more recognition than this beauty:

More stuff for those who like my taste:

Well first there is the MGS4 main theme:

An other one is Hell March, it's just an awesome classic:

And than let's just add Civ III's modern age soundtrack. The soundtrack itself isn't that great but it just seemed to fit the context so well, you get into the modern age and you have a techno soundtrack going on.

Probably my favorite song out of the whole OST:

I just love this song so damn much and it really does set the mood for the place:

And because I'm a Silent Hill fan. I just love this one even though it's in a sad part in the game:

Well, I know that inevitably someone will post OST from Persona 3 and 4, so I instead will go with music from awesome Front Mission 3. What I really love about FM3 OST is that there are songs perfect for every kind of game mood.

Well BlazBlue has what I personally believe to be the very BEST game soundtrack ever.

God I still love how Mu plays. Zoning for days.

I cannot play such a close range character but dammit Makoto has the best voice clips, stage and music.

The Persona 4 soundtrack is absolutely sublime, the Ace Attorney soundtrack has a load of really iconic tunes and while not as amazing as BB's soundtrack, P4A has some good ones.

Orgia Mode OP, nerf pls. Double overheads too strong.

Why do people not play Aigis whatsoever? Oh she has two modes, too hard just going to play Yu instead >.>

That's actually pretty badass music, I'd never heard it before. Thanks for that!

For my own contributions here the mandatory best game music evar:

But that aside here's a few more unusual suggestions:

And one of my personal favourites even after all these years:

*cracks knuckles*

Where to start? I might just go down my list for my bookmark. First up is the end credits from Chronotrigger. I know everyone has likely heard it, but for those who haven't...
Next is the final boss theme to Kirby 64. If I would fought a final boss in my life, I would want it to have this theme.
Ok, so I know I just said if I had to fight a final boss, I would want the theme to be O2...but I changed my mind.
After the grand epicness of the last two songs, this one may seem out of place. It's just so damn catchy though.
I can't include my favorite songs and not include this one. I love this one so much.
So I might have to start skipping some soon, but I can't skip over this one...or a lot of them really.
This song was so perfect for the part in the game in FF6. It just feels so depressing and solemn. Like there's just nothing you can do but roll over and die.
I still kinda feel ugh about the game itself, but it still had good music. You don't even have to go farther than the main menu to find it too.
I may be cheating with this one, since it's the orchestral version of it, but damn if this doesn't do it for you I don't know what will!
I'm afraid I'm going to start depressing people with the music, so time for the out of place upbeat song!
The end song to the first Mass Effect was literally perfect, I can't imagine a better song to it. Honestly the end credits songs through the whole trilogy was just great.
Finally, because I hate everyone, I'm going to finish it off with a great credits song sure to make you cry like a baby!
Honestly, I skipped a lot of my favs but I felt like I had too many as it was and that most people already know all of these so I don't want to be redundant.

Almost anything composed by Nobuo Uematsu for the Final Fantasy series is stunning, especially when you hear the proper orchestral version. What impresses me most about it though, is how even 8bit version of it still create a sense of atmosphere and help draw you in.

Thread resurrection with a purpose!
See the Zelda: Skyward Sword theme?
Pretty good right?

Well it's actually Zelda's lullaby reversed, here's the song reversed.

So half bump, half contribution here.

Yeah, its probably the only civ in the game who's peace theme could dual act as a war theme.

All of the Final Fantasy series has absolutely brilliant soundtrack's. I even proudly bought FFX's soundtrack recently, which is my favourite.

Other videogames with great music that I love include Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mass Effect and the Bioshock series.

I think Jeremy Soule's my favourite VGM composer - particularly the Elder Scrolls games and Guild Wars. Also Zelda music, the Mario Galaxy soundtracks, and the Assassin's Creed series, especially ACII.

I've always loved the Halo series dedication to making the music a core part of the experience. I guess when you've got a Marty O'Donnel on your payroll, you get that kind of awesome.

Metroid, even going back as far as the 8-bit era, has always had a memorable score.

And as much as I hate to praise Final Fantasy in any way, shape, or form; the music in those games is beyond epic. It's moving and powerful. And as much as I don't like all the 3D FF games, there is no denying it's place at the higher end of not only great gaming music, but great music in general. Even divorced from it's gaming, it would still be powerful and emotional and memorable.

Modern Warfare 2 had a very good soundtrack:
Kinda goes without saying, it was done by Hans Zimmer, who also did movies like The Rock, Pirates of the Caribbean and Black Hawk Down.
So did Red Alert 3 for that matter:

Do yourself a favor and look up the music from the "NewSan" levels in the PC game MegaRace.

16bit MIDI FTW.

I'd kind of been ignoring the Dark Souls soundtracks, what with them either being non existent or a bit boring, but the Smough and Ornstein one surprised me. Then again, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I'd been able to beat the boss on, say, my 3rd attempt as opposed to my 15th.
OT: SMT games have all the good OST's. Nocturne has some brilliant ones, such as the reason theme.
And of course, Persona:
