First, let me clarify that I will not be gaming grandmas; my grandma will hopefully be gaming on her own!

On subject, my grandma plays some flash games online (free slots, bejewled), and my mother wants to buy her a kindle fire so she can play games on something other than the horrible computer she currently uses. Now, my mother doesn't kno very much about this stuff. So, I am taking it upon myself to ask other people for her!

The question is what device would be best for this kind of gaming. Keep in mind, my grandma is old and has very little experience/desire for more hardcore gaming. With this in mind, I don't think a ds/psp type system would work because it is both smaller and comes with the expense of having to buy games for more than a dollar.

I am thinking either an ipad 1st gen or a kindle fire would be best for her, but I am open to any suggestions/advice any escapists have.

tl;dr: My grandma needs something to game on. What do you suggest and why: ipad 1st gen or kindle fire?

I vote iPad. My grandparents have one and love it. While the Android app market may be catching up, Apple also seems to boast the better variety of games. The iPad also has a bigger screen (easier to see/more room to enlarge text if needed, etc.), better hardware, and a longer battery life; while it's a bit heavier I don't think that'll make much difference.

How are her hands and dexterity? A ipad might be best, but possibly keep tabs on how the WiiU pans out in the future. You can also get PC trackballs which should be more comfortable to use, at the very least get her off a laptop touchpad if she is using one, I can only use one for 30mins and my hands start cramping

If she likes puzzlers maybe Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes might be to her liking, if she uses PC get it on steam, who knows she might become a valve fanboy lol

There are other puzzlers on steam IIRc (Crayon Physics Deluxe might be another that she will like)

as much as i hate ever suggesting buying something from them, iPad is probably what is best for her, with the very large app library and big screen, it sounds perfect for her.
