If he'd just called it harassment I'd still say, "It's called griefing, woman. Welcome to the internet. Develop a thicker skin and ignore him or log off". There's tons of worse things going on in Halo games and such, so I personally don't think she or her over-sensitive roomie have a leg to stand on.
I'm curious now, how bad would it have to be before it would be worth making a big deal of it to you? Does this attitude extend to other forms of harassment as well? What about ethnic slurs? Where do you draw the line, or is your default position that the internet is off limits to any group who isn't prepared to be insulted with regularity?
I wouldn't say that the internet is a place where people should expect to never hear/read racial or sexist slurs, since it'll be impossible to prevent all of it from happening. I would say that people need to stop being so sensitive about things like this because I'm willing to bet her griefer is a 9 year-old kid just being a douche, so it's not necessarily like she can do anything about him. Racism, sexism, etc. are fairly hard to convey through just the actions of an avatar.
However, the article never stated that the "assaulter" actually typed or said anything, so my response to the cries of "harassment" or "assault" is just to laugh and say "No".
If the guy doing the griefing was on a mic or typing a stream of dirty words and insults, then I'd say they have grounds to maybe get him banned from the server or something but still not for "sexual assault" as assault implies physical interaction. Harassment? Maybe, but I think there's not really anyone who should compensate her for her "trauma".
