Hello once more, Fellow escapists. Well, I guess I won't waste any time ...*dons flame retardant suit*

Okay then. Alright, so I've been wondering for a long time now, and with the many FF7 spin off games and talk around the forums about an FF7 remake, it got me thinking about Final Fantasy 6.

Final Fantasy six is... *gulp* (sorry about this, but what the hell, I'm going for it anyway...) Final Fantasy 6 is widely considered to be the best final fantasy story ever made. (THERE! I said it!!! *locks doors and windows*) yet it is shown remarkably little love.

Over the past few years, many of the older final fantasies have been getting remakes. Final Fantasy 1 and 2 were remastered on the PSP, and Final Fantasy 3 and 4 were completely redone in 3D for the DS.

And spin-offs. Final Fantasy 7 has had several spin-offs since it was released. And not too long ago, "Final Fantasy 4:The After Years" was released.

Why is it that Final Fantasy 6 seems to always be lost in the sauce? Do you think Final Fantasy 6 will ever get a remastered version or a spin-off? Do you think they are just going from 1, up, again? Do you think they never will? Why not?

*sits on porch with gauss rifle.*

*EDIT*

Also, wanted to say, I know Final Fantasy 6 was part of Anthologies for the PS1, but you really call that recent and you really call that a remake? It was a simple port, not that there is anything wrong with that, same for the GBA port... except for it's damn censoring!

I believe they are going through the FF's one at a time. How many people remember FF1 that doesn't own an emulator? Not many, I'd imagine.

Give it time, you may find it will get re-released.

Wasn't it part of the PS1 FF Anthology?

I agree that FF6 has the best story in the Final Fantasy series so far. However, even though 6 has the better story, I felt that the writing and the way the story was put together was better in 7. They are both amazing games, but I like them for different reasons.

OT: I think it's only a matter of time before 6 gets re-released or remade. It's already been done once on the Game Boy Advance. I don't see why they can't give it the same treatment they gave 3 and 4 on the DS. Or they can do something with it on the PSP. I don't really care what they do with it, but I think something is bound to happen eventually.

It was redone on the GBA, but that was a while ago. The characterisation was a little different (closer to what it was in the original Japanese, supposedly) but on the whole it was an improvement - extra dungeons (superbosses, yay!) and a couple of bonus party members.

I'd like to see a voiced, 3D remake of FFVI, though. And FFIX too, to be honest - although it may be a little early for that.

I would love a GOOD remake of FF6 with dissidia/KH visuals if it was done right. It's a great game and I am sure they are going to remaster it some day if the latest remakes of FF3 and FF4 are any indication. Just please god don't remake them with those visuals, it would destroy the entire charm and spirit of the game. As for spinoffs....NO!! FUCK NO!! 6 was a very complete story and doesn't need and shouldn't have any sort of sequel, prequel, spinoff, whatever. The story was very self contained and had a complete and proper conclusion and should best be left far away from the such ideas.

Sheesh, FF6 got remade a few times.

The forgotten Fantasy is FF9! It never got remade. It never had a spin-off. Zidane and Kuja were in Dissidia. 9 is better than 6 in my opinion.

Final Fantasy 6 came packaged with the first US release of Final Fantasy 5 as the Final Fantasy Anthology...back in 1999.
Yes, it might not get too much press these days, but it most certainly is not forgotten.

Game Informer placed it at number 8 on its Greatest Games of All Time list back in December. I'm not saying that you should agree with the list, I'm just pointing out that it it was present on said list in Gamestop's magazine as recently as last month.

Isn't that the one released on the DS? Then yea, I loved it to hell.
Im not sure they rereleased it on the ds, I know they did a 3d remake of ff2 (not sure what the real number was, I think like 3 or 4)

ugh stupid final fantasy numbering system

I Really want a remastered FF6 (for the PSP for much better quality, sorry but the DS remakes really don't aesthetically appeal to me) but without changing the important things but you are wrong on it having the best story, FFT has the best but overall FF6 as a game (story, gameplay, setting, characters, etc.) takes the cake as the best FF ever.

Though FF6 needs no spin off or anything of the like the game that really needs one if FFX I want a FFX-0 with the story of Jecht as that was much more interesting than the main story or X-2

No spin-offs. The story's done. However, a DS remake a la Final Fantasy 4 is far from out of the question. If any Final Fantasy could benefit from an injection of difficulty it would be FF6, which became progressively easy after you got enough powerful Espers.

One problem would be finding voice actors to adequately suit the characters, particularly Edgar and Cyan. Crispin Freeman for Kefka!

I'd rather they just leave it be. It was the last of the 16-bit Final Fantasy games and had much improved graphics over the previous 16-bit titles that carried over the 8-bit looking sprites.

It stands on its own very well, and some digging through used game shops and Ebay can net you an original copy on 3 different systems. (SNES, Playstation, GBA)

9 was originally a spin-off so um... yeah... technically it has covered that ground =D

I'd love to see the characters of that universe again (I too love 9 over 6) in a different context, but... (yes there's a but unfortunately)
When FFVII got spin-offs it was because there were stories that weren't told. The aftermath of the what damage the meteor did to everything. What was Zack's story? And... well the other two weren't so necessary.
I feel like FF9 left off with a pretty much closed story. In terms of prequel stuff, I can't really see it; unless you are playing as the Tauntalus (I think that's what they're called) guys, performing robberies and junk.
FF6 on the other hand, I feel, doesn't need a remake at all. It's fine how it is. A 3D remake would ruin the visuals of some of the places and enemies. On the other hand, a spin-off could work. Aftermath, considering the world is still super messed up? Prequel about how the empire arose? They could work.

On the other hand, I don't like remakes and spin-offs that much, if only because I feel I'm being milked for money.

Spin-off of what, exactly?

respectfully good sir, i've always put mark hamill's voice over kefka, i dont know why it just seems naturally sounding to me since he reminds me of the joker

FF6 is still my favorite. And I don't see that changing any time soon. A balanced cast of deep characters, a sweeping epic story, excellent combat implementation... It did pretty much everything right.
