Inspired by the "Franchises that had promise, but 'died' before their time" thread in the Gaming Discussion forum, this is basically the same thread, but for films.
You know, I genuinely think that the original Final Destination was a cracking little film that broke the mould for teen horrors (or just horrors in general), in that the "killer" was literally Death himself, invisible. It kept you in suspense with the sudden (and imaginative) deaths, while playing with the idea of fate.
Aaaaaand then they ran it into the ground with four predictable sequels that did little to change the plot. I mean, still entertaining nonetheless, but once you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Also, The Matrix trilogy. I mean, the sequels weren't bad by any means, but they were underwhelming, bogged down in a retarded script involving technobabble that didn't make any sense and introduced a bunch of plotholes, an influx of bland secondary characters that I couldn't give two shits about, the whole "Neo is the chosen one" plot point soon wore out its welcome, and Trinity was turned from a lithe and badass combatant to Neo's annoying clinger (also, her costume looked cooler in the first film).
