I was watching Firefly the other day and I got the last episode and I felt that oh-so-familiar pang of pain associated with the end of Firefly and I got to thinking: "Firefly would work really well as a Western RPG".
The way envisioned it was sort of like Mass Effect but with more emphasis on side quests. You'd have your main story (written primarily by Joss Whedon) where we'd have an epic story with our favourite ship crew going up against Alliance or some other threat where we would meet loads of fun characters and do loads of fun missions. Then there'd be the rest of the 'verse. Lots of side missions where you'd do "jobs" like they did in the show and meet old and new friends. The side quests would be written by the Firefly writing staff and would really flesh out an already cool world.
As for the actual gameplay bit I couldn't decide between a squad shooter with lots of different play styles depending on who you picked:
Mal: Specialising in pistols and fast shooting. (More cover based)
Zoe: Your shotguns and close range weapons (A mixture of cover based and run and gun)
Jayne: You assault rifles and heavier weapons as well as some snipering (run and gun except for sniper bits)
River: Maybe a more hand to hand type melee affair, maybe with a bit of hand gun.
Simon: The medic but has a little handgun training.
I think it could be a really fun game.
The other idea I had I won't go into as much detail on was a Harry Potter game where you played through his school years. I know, they already did it and it sucked but bare with me, this is more of a story idea. Say game 1 was based on Years 1-3. The game is split into the respective year each with it's own main story (which follows the plot of the books with little extras). However, each year has a vast array of side missions you can do which reveal various bits of mythology and backstory for the games. So for book 1 you'd do say errands for the ghosts which tell you a bit about Nicholas Femel and his relationship with Dumbledore. Then once you complete Year 1's main story you move onto Year 2. In Year 2 (The Chamber of Secrets) you do sidequests which tell you about the founding of Hogwarts and about the founders themselves. Another example I can think of is Year 6 where you collect memories from various people which flesh out Voldemort's history and maybe some other side characters.
So yeah, that's my ideas. What about the rest of you?
