Final Fantasy Versus XIII and what should had been

We all know what the general opinion of Final Fantasy XIII turned out to be, but here's an interesting concept. What if Square-Enix had ended up deciding to reverse XIII and Versus XIII, making Versus XIII the next main entry in the series and Lightning and company turned out to be the side/spin-off game? Possibly even cancel Lightning's adventure in favor of Versus XIII.

I know there's still a lot of details not yet about Versus, but from what I've heard about it so far overall it sounds like it would had made a better entry. So what do you think? Should Square-Enix have switched XIII and Versus XIII around or should Lightning's story not have existed in the first place?

Honestly? We have so little information on Versus, that it's impossible for us to know anything.

For the record, I'm one of those weirdos who liked FF13. A lot. Or at least the battle system. The story was shit, but I don't care about the story in games.

Final Fantasy XIII was fine, it can stay where it is as far as I'm concerned. The way I saw it the reason Versus was made more of a spin off because it was meant to be an experiment to try a darker style, plus it seems to play more like Kingdom hearts, rather than a numbered Final Fantasy. Besides, why does not being in the main series mean anything? As far as I'm concerned, if it's a good game, I couldn't give a crap whether it's a spin off or a main series game.

I've just heard a lot of negative feed back about XIII, along with my own opinion and the opinions of those around me, so it got me thinking: "Would people think Versus XIII should get the main spotlight of the numbered series more so than Lightning's game?"

I enjoyed XIII for the most part. I mean I beat it so I had to enjoy it somewhat. I certainly don't think I could ever play through it again though. Versus looks absolutely awesome. Shame it is PS3 exclusive though. (for now at least)

They're not a regular thing, it's just this one game they're making - sort of a side game - called Versus XIII.

It's meant to be a darker style than usual. Have a look at the trailers and stuff.

GamesB2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a Spin off to XIII. It's supposed to take place within the same universe, but has no connection to XIII at all.

FFXIII wasnt the best in the series, but I certainly got my £35 worth of entertainment out of it and it should have been the next in the numbered series. Can't really comment on versus XIII as of yet, seeing as I have no idea whats going on in it other than theres a guy who likes to walk down steps and has a dislike of fantasy style SWAT team members.

It did have spin-offs, but I don't think any of them were called Versus.
