How is it that Final Fantasy continues to make crappy games with cheesy lines and people still flock to them but when Suikoden make 2 bad games that is all I hear about and they were still better than Final Fantasy X-XIII... I really hope they release the PSP one here soon

Because "crappy" is an opinion, and in a lot of peoples' opinion, Final Fantasy is not crappy. Hence the regularly high sales figures the series receives.

Suikoden was always Konami's low-budget rpg. Castlevania, (yes you read that right), was their star rpg.
And Suikoden had to compete when Square was at the height of their game; it's no surprise it died relatively young, though I still love the first three games.

Whereas every core Final Fantasy game has had an enormous budget behind them.
Still, there are things in Suikoden that I wish other jrpgs did more frequently and modern rpgs could afford to take a note or two.

So far it looks okay, looks better than the DS one... Characters look more varied than Suikoden IV's did...been waiting for Suikoden VI for almost a decade so anything helps get my fix :)

I really believe that advertising and gaming magazine help out, if any magazine mentions Suikoden it is a tiny blurb...though the last two games didn't do 1,2, and 5 justice. Final Fantasy, I feel, has gone downhill after IX (which was one of my favorites, other being Final Fantasy 3) I could't relate to Tidus and XII's characters were so bland..I feel XII tried to be Suikoden adding in politics

I agree completely, Vandall Hearts, there other low budget RPG, was revived if only for one more game, on XBOX live and PSN.

Oh, I love both series. I think Final Fantasy is a stronger brand though because it's more mainstream. Non-gamers will often have a vague idea of what FF is, but bring up Suikoden and you're often lucky if other gamers have heard of it. Add that fact that it is taking Konami forever to release the next true Suikoden game (VI), and the brand is slowly fading from people's minds. Which is said really, because the most important Suikoden question has yet to be answered:

What is Yuber, and why is Pesmerga chasing him? What are those two up to?

Is there a decent looking Suikoden? I'd play it on PSP. I'm curious. There.
I rented it for the PS2 once and it was ass ugly. I think it was Suikoden 3. The character models in the towns looked like they were straight out of Final Fantasy 7, and the 3D effects in the scenery were so minimalist I felt like I was playing one of those 2.5D games from the early PS1 era. And the female characters were designated by skirts, but they weren't really "skirts," just pants that were square and wide at the end and had something like an apron texture strung over the whole thing. After playing Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X-2, I was less than impressed with the graphics of Suikoden 3. Never rented it again, never had a desire to touch anything from the series again.

If I recall, Yuber is simply an human embodiment of Chaos (more specifically, War and Conflict rather than just "random".) and Pesmerga is his opposite counterpart.

Given Yuber's nature, they would probably show up again if Konami had any plans on doing another game in the actual Suikoden universe rather than...well, whatever they did for the DS game (I haven't played it, but it features Porpoise People..)

Personally, I'm more interested in a story about the Circle Rune and Harmonia's High Priest Hikusaak, since they seem to have some relations to the other major plots (especially 3, and parts of 2. Remember, Harmonia gave Highland the Beast Rune).
I'd be perfectly willing to endure shitty religious symbolism for it even!

Thank you. Maybe later ones were better. The new Japanese one is colourful, at least. -_-
