Final Fantasy

It seems to be that the final fantasy games have been getting worse and worse since FF10, but the last 2 games especially have been disasters. Is final fantasy really going to go on forever, or is it on it's last legs.

For me, as much as I love the series, I think that they just need to leave it alone for a while. Maybe they can reboot it in a few years with new ideas and a new staff, but the Final Fantasy franchise has become bloated and needs to take a break for a while. Thoughts?

I dunno I think it's a franchise that needs to end before they do irrefutable damage like sonic team...

Though I'm not sure that will be a good thing for the industry since, it's pretty much the only franchise holding up JRPGS in the western market...

I think they've been doing okay for themselves in making the games. XIV is probably going to have the same results as XI.

While I don't think XIII was the greatest, I still enjoyed it.
And I'm really looking forwards to versus XIII.

They should re-release all the old games through PSN though...

I don't know how long Final Fantasy will go on (the series is 2 years older than I am, and I'm 21).

I'm kinda hoping they get to Final Fantasy 30 though. Since they use Roman numerals, Fox News and Jack Thompson will try and claim it's some kind of porn game and then finally completely discredit themselves from the two people on the planet who still take them seriously when Final Fantasy XXX turns out to be a turn-based strategy role-playing game like usual.

Final Fantasy has been declining in quality since FF6, but thats because FF6 was so bloody amazing. I'm a massive fan of Final Fantasy but to be honest I kissed that series goodbye after FFX. There are much better Jrpgs on the market now (Persona 3/4, Resonance of Fate, The World Ends With You etc.) and Final Fantasy is lagging behind in innovation, creativity and overall originality.

I mean FF13 was literally running down some corridors for 30 hours finding a big open space and then going right back to running down corridors for the last 15 hours. The charm has left this series alongside Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobou Uematsu (who by the way are making very good rpgs for the new comapany "Mistwalker")

XI isn't a bad game. Don't know where you got that idea. Granted it took awhile before XI become accessible. It just takes ages before SE does anything.

Ok, new question. Does anyone think that if Final Fantasy took a break for a few years and then did a reboot, would the games improve?

Solution: No more FF games. Make only direct sequels to the Chrono Trigger storyline. (CC doesn't count, not saying it was a bad game though).

Are you REALLY going to offer some discussion or just come here and preach? The OP was hardly complaining, he was merely stating his opinion. Compared to a lot of other rage against ____ (insert mainstream game here) threads that offer no discussion value, at least the OP was asking a question.

Besides, he does like the games. Just not the latest few. He was wondering if they, in his opinion, would get better if they took a break for a while. I understand the need to stop some of these game hate threads, because they are excessive, but this isn't one of them if you just read the OP.

Its not so much that they're losing interest, the games haven't really made any real progress from the original format, rather they've moved back. Consider the points of linear-progress brought up previously from FFX and FFXIII. In X you were basically led around by the nose until the end of the game, but at least there were diversions in the form of Blitz Ball. XIII felt like a 12 hour tutorial with no real diversions...
I think the only step left for the FF series is to harken back to the open-world map with the choice to go linear or make your own way through the game. That and perhaps consult with some of the people who originally made the series good and popular who no longer work for Square/Enix.

Also, the music.... please I know you can't get Uematsu back but at least find someone who can provide a decent soundtrack that doesnt' make me shut off the in-game music.
