FireFall - new game out of PAX, seems interesting.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of it that's on the Escapist and what you think of it so far or if you haven't and you do now what you think of it.

I personally think it looks like a really good game, sort of a cross between Borderlands and Starship Troopers.

I talked with the developer of this game.

It's a MMOFPS, but not in the Tabula Rasa sorta way. Where you aim is where you shoot (think Planetsidish). The PVE world is completely open and the missions are more like mission objectives (the example I was given was defending an excavator from monster attacks). The PVP will, for now (KEY WORD), happen in 32/64 man games that are kinda along the lines of Tribes (Scott Youngblood, designer of Tribes and Tribes 2 is part of the dev team, go figure) and since the engine is designed to have tons of people on screen at once, they are eventually wanting to have Planetside style fights. The dev I was talking to is an old Planetside player (from the good ole days of PS) and I had a lot of fun reminiscing with him about that game.

There is a lot of old Tribes influence on this game though, so I think the best way to sum this up would be Tribes, the MMO.

EDIT: Mark Kern, lead designer of WoW is also one of the game designers, so I expect good things out of Firefall.

I was just regurgitating what I could remember from my talk with the dev. The PVE is going to be open world with tons of players, the PVP won't.

Had a look at the trailers a few days ago, looks interesting so far. But then again, most stuff looks interesting in closed environments so carefully withholding enthusiasm until more info is released.

It is going to be F2P, but they have said that their cash shop will not have items that give you a skill edge in game.

they fight robot things towards the middle end of the gameplay clip that invade their base. i am sure there will be other things than bug swarms.

Just sign up for the forums, that gets you registered, add Issa as a friend when you do.
