Although he didn't die like the gamers in asia.

Edit: the news story also points out to an UK teen who died from gaming.

Oh fuck, FOX News will be all over this with: "Videogames directly kills people."

Edit: I blame the mother of this teenager for most of what happened.

He was playing a game for 4-5 days straight and she didn't even think that there was going to be a problem for doing that.

The exclamation in the title makes it look like you're super excited about it.
Hopefully this kid will get a good hard slap from his parent/guardian and stop being so bloody silly.
At 15, you should really know things like `Drink water to not die`.

"Wizard needs food badly" and all that jazz. Although seriously, four or five days and no one noticed the fact that he wasn't drinking enough water or eating enough food. And who in the heavens lets their kid play for so long? My mother would've slapped me silly if I tried this stuff at that age.

He collapsed after only four days? Noob...

Sorry, that was completely uncalled for.

Seriously though, I (in fact everyone will) have noticed over the last few years a massive increase in gamers who place higher value in online 'achievement' than real world issues. Unfortunately game devs linking Skinner Box style reward systems in to their games will result in addiction, and for every ten people with an addiction you will have one person with an unhealthy addiction. As sad as this person's experience was, it was inevitable that them, or someone like them, would succumb in this way due to the techniques employed by modern gaming companies.

I thought that pressing X was what one did to not die.

I can't say I feel that bad for him. I'm 15 years old and I love my video games, but it's not incredibly difficult for me to stop playing for a few minutes to drink something.

Also, I immediately have the feels for anyone who gets seriously addicted to Call of Duty. There are far more amazing things in life to develop an addiction to.

It may sound silly, but we've all heard the phrase about wasting food, when there are millions of people starving in some countries. Well in some countries people walk 12 miles a day to get their water as well. And they are dying regularly of dehydration. All this kid needed to do was turn on a tap. I find it very hard to feel sorry for anyone in that family. I wonder if throwing out the xbox is a temporary solution, or will he actually learn to respond to his natural needs now.

No sympathy. I can and have done a gaming marathon lasting for weeks, only sleeping when I absolutely need to (so every two or so days, usually only for 4 hours) which was insane and I can't believe I used to be like that. I still understood that I needed to eat and drink or I would die.

I became very unhealthy and stopped when I realised what it was doing to me, but honestly, it sounds like something in his brain snapped. Either that or he is a very, very stupid human being. Hell, isn't it standard practise for any gamer doing a marathon to have a bottle of water and snacks?

Just watch, I'll bet you some idiot will start advocating for the inclusion of bottled water with every Xbox purchase.

This just made me remember something from my childhood. When I was young, if I played for more than a couple hours, my mom would start vacuuming and "accidently" bump my NES with the vacuum, resetting it. Soooo many FF1 savegames lost....

And another one gone and another one down...

If you can stop to take a leak then you can sure as hell stop to feed yourself.

Is that the alarm of dumbass parenting? I think it is!

But seriously who does a marathon of ONE game? It wasn't even like a series of games...
Agreed in full. The newer call of dutys are horrible story tellers. Finest hour was a reviting peice of story. but not COD its multiplayer and campaign are lousy.

Brother... Is that you?

OT: It was the mothers fault, this can't be stated enough this time.

It's all the video games fault. They're using mind control on the kids, I tell ya.... It's all an evil plot. Clearly he had no choice but to keep playing.

Ok, jokes aside, didn't he even get thirsty? That's kind of a hard feeling to miss. "crap, I'm parched. I had better go get something to drink". Also, how in the world could someone play video games for 4 days straight? I played a "marathon" of LOTRO a couple years back, and that was only a 5-6 hour stint. How could someone stand sitting in the same place for that long?

It says in the story that the parents actually threw out his Xbox360. I guess he's going to have to go to PC gaming or no gaming at all. Still, if he goes through 5 day gaming marathons, perhaps he shouldn't be playing games at all.
