The eyes are perfect. Tell me this doesn't look like Mark Bagley's Spidey walked right off the page.

Close, sure. But Spidey's outfit is pretty specific.

The spider on his chest is what interests me--is it supposed to be a particular species or generic 'spider'?

The suit may be different (and better in my opinion), but the creative team remains the same, so I'm not holding out for this one.

But who knows? Maybe it'll surprise me.

And it only took them one movie to fix it. I wonder if anyone actually working on the suit tried to mention the eyes before the first one was filmed.

I don't know, having a creative team not involving Sam Raimi worked for the last one.

I find it quite amusing that the costume designers appear to have just said, "You know what, we screwed up on the last one, let's just make it more like the costume in the Raimi movies."

Disclaimer: I've not seen The Amazing Spider-Man so I'm not casting aspersions on the film's quality, just observing that the costume was, shall we say, not great.

I don't care about Sam Raimi, I just wasn't satisfied with the the first ASM.

O.K, that's pretty much my perfect Spidey costume. Probably because it looks like the one from the Spectacular Spider-Man series...damn, now I'm getting all sad because I reminded myself that they canceled it. They better call ASM2 The Spectacular Spider-Man now...

That what I thought about the last costume aswell.

Anyway, to me they had nail it! Seriosuly the eyes look exactly like the comicbooks!

I was. It wasn't the Avengers or the Dark Knight, but it was a damn fine movie I think takes too much flak for arbitrary "because ponies" reasons.

Is that what we're calling them now?

Look if you like it, I'm not gonna give you flak, I just don't think it holds up to previous standalone superhero movies (before TDK and Avengers).

Yes, the Raimi movies. That must be it. It's not like they could have had another source of inspiration.

Also, I like the fact that just about everyone has precluded the notion that the intent wasn't to evolve the costume. This was something that was actually intended in the Raimi flicks, too, but got edited out for time. The story being that eventually Peter steals a store-model costume because it's just...Better.

Clearly, this is an admission of failure, though we know nothing other than it's a more authentic (with regards to the comic) costume.

Finally, as long as the costume moves as well as in the ASM, it can look like this for all I care:

When people aren't giving real reasons, yes.
Would you like real reasons? Because I could list a few, if you want (not "It wasn't Sam Raimi, so therefore suck").

I actually enjoyed the Spiderman movie. Didnt like the trailer and how they showed him as a douche. Also read a few reviews and we know what a certain Bob thoughts are on this movie. But i actually enjoyed it. Only thing that was stupid was the amount of times he removes his mask.....whats the point in having a mask if you keep taking it off allowing people to see you? Other than that i thought it was fine. An some of the arguments are dumb, like why did lizard want to turn a city into lizards? He tells you in the movie, he wants a world were every one is equal, thus, everyone can be lizards and be strong and smart and everything else. Come on, its a comic book movie, got to expect that stuff. lol

I like the new suit though.

That was kind of my point, to be fair. The costume in the Raimi films looked pretty much exactly as it does in the comics, and the only reason they changed it for Amazing Spider-Man - as far as I can tell - was for the sake of changing it. Going back to how it looked in the previous movies and the comics is basically just, as you say, an admission of failure on the costume designer's part.
