Two days ago marked my first time ever seriously playing Ocarina of Time. I was around 6 when the game first came out and I watched my older cousins play it all the time. I never really had the attention span to play something so vast and long winded. But finally, I decided to break out my N64 and my copy of the game to finally give it a go.

This isn't my first experience with a Zelda game. A Link to the Past is one of my favorite games, but this is my first crack at a 3D Zelda game. Call me late to the party but better late than never.

I am at Phantom Ganon at the end of the Forest Temple and I have to say that this isn't an easy game. Call me stupid or whatever, but I am having a fun time really thinking while playing.

I turn 18 in a month so my question is... when was the first time you ever played this game? How did you feel? Was it "magical"? Did you love it? Hate it?

It was about 2 years ago on the N64. I didn't find it to be the best Zelda game of all time. That'd be Link to the Past. Sure, it was a fun game, but not like "OH MY GOD! I ORGASM OVER THIS ALL OF THE TIME!"

First time I played was 6 but I actually played and beat it. I played it all the time, then I got the master quest version on the gamecube. Beat that, and now I got the 3ds version, and I'm loving it again, truly the best game I've ever played.

I don't know, I think I was eleven. I think it was the Collector's Edition for Gamecube, which I think the 'Cube's controller is better than the 3DS's or N64 controller.

How did I feel: I was enjoying it, but there were many things I didn't like (NO, NAVI OR THE WATER TEMPLE WEREN'T ANY OF THEM), namely the Lens of Truth concept and the race to get the Clawshot.

Was it magical: Not really, I love Majora's Mask a lot more than OoT.

Did I love it: I did, but of course I thought it was flawed.

I was 11. I found OoT to be one of the easier Zelda games. Had no problem walking through the game without a strategy guide or internet assistance. Having said that, I definitely developed a strong emotional connection to the game and have played it at least five or six times since then.

Still, I think Majora's Mask is a superior game.

I played it around the time it first came out.

Oddly enough, it was sort of on a dare. A pair of my friends were talking about it, and I didn't know anything about this game so I overheard them talking about catching fish. So, being the douche that I am, I chimed in going "Woah, fishing? That's so exciting. FISHING."

One of my friends who was almost done with the game told me not to mock it till I tried it. I figured "Whatever, nothing else to play right now anyways."

About two weeks later, I returned the finished game to him, and humbly ate my earlier statements.

I loved it the first time I played it, but I honestly think its past its prime now. If you've played the more current 3D Zelda games you'd basically know the template for OoT which I think ruins the experience. The reason why is all the puzzle will seem extremely simple because you've seen almost the exact same ones in Twilight Princess or The Wind Waker. While those games do have their differences from the OoT storywise when it comes down to the gameplay nothing has really changed. Its still the same sorts of puzzles to find small keys or to figure out how to beat the bosses of each temple. I have to say the bosses in Zelda games have gotten so much easier than what I've faced the first time playing OoT.

All I'm saying is while OoT is a great game and it is. I feel like anybody playing it now who has played TP will just feel as though its a shittier version of that. Although it makes me sad to say it nostalgia can't always save things. I still do enjoy OoT, but now playing through it doesn't have the same wonder as before. Now any time I do a run through of the game it takes me half as much to time to actually beat than it did when I first played it. This is because I've played each 3D Zelda game so many times that I know the puzzles inside and out. I can only hope that Skyward Sword can shake up the Zelda gameplay like OoT did back in the day otherwise I'll lose all hope for the franchise ever being original again.

To be fair it did present a damn good way to bring something from the 2D realm into the 3D realm without fucking too much with the original concept. If you don't think thats a big deal than just look at how hard Sonic Team struggles to bring our favorite blue hedgehog into 3D yet they fail every single time. OoT set up the template for future 3D Zelda games and it was a damn good one at that. But as I said I do think OoT is outdated, overrated though thats a different story.

Had it on our N64 (loaned it in exchange for Super Smash Bros, never got around to switching back) but I played through it two or three times and loved it.

I'm rather proud of the fact that I completed it without a walkthrough, despite being very young at the time, and very good at getting lost.

I was 5 when it first came out and I would watch my brother play it. Also I was too young to appreciate it at the time. I was about 15 my first time seriously playing it and I was so taken by how ahead of it's time this game must have been.

I watched my older brother play it, and bought him a strategy guide for chirstmas (jabu jabu's belly was too tough for him).
