WHY?!
Darnit, i am really sick and tired of first person shooter games, they are getting tedious.
I mean some are fine. But come on. I own an Xbox 360 and i'm starting to regret the choice on account of copious of games on the 360 are first person shooters!
Am i the only one getting sick of unimaginative FPS games?

Any genre that's popular attracts lots and lots of imitators. It's happened with everything that's easy to make. There were times when we were swimming in platformers and adventure games too. Eventually this will hit critical mass and crumble under it's own weight. You'll see.

There will come a day when a developer releases something that is really only "Okay", but it will be hailed as greatness simply by virtue of it not being an FPS. So hailed will its greatness be that more titles like it are made. On this day, the FPS reign will end.

Aren't there like, games for the um, Xbox 360 or whatever, that aren't, y'know, FPS games?

In all seriousness I get your point, but just buy a game that isn't an FPS. If enough people have that reaction, the market adapts accordingly and then we can have a glut of whatever new genre is possible.

Also...download Ikaruga.

Ok if you are tired of FPS then wait for the games that are come out year (must of the great game aren't FPS) like GTA 4, Too Human, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo Wars and Prototype. 7 games that aren't FPS for the 360.

There's a lot of shooters on that list, yes, but there's a lot else too. Seek. Find.

(But remain skeptical, as there's a fair number of "guessware" titles in the undated list. For instance, this is the first I've heard of a "Heroic Map Pack part II" for Halo 3 in Q3... and that's saying something.)

If all else fails you can always buy a PC and start counting down the days to Starcraft 2 *all hail the great Sarcraft 2* like me.

p.s.
So what, I like to look at Starraft 2 screenshots in a candle lit room with Barry White playing in the background, doesn't everyone? ;-)

If you ask me, all FPSs(except the Metroid Prime and Halo series) are pretty much the same. You shoot guns, you throw grenades, you never see your character unless you die, etc. Metroid Prime is different because there are different guns(i.e. ice cannon, missiles) and you don't throw grenades but lay bombs. Halo's different because it is a lot more unique for an FPS and you lay mines, shields, etc.

Well, as a primary FPS gamer, I don't see your problem. But, as an average gamer, I do. While I think the X360 is quite inundated with FPSs, I think, like everybody else stated, you need to look around.

I lol'd.

Halo is so overrated. Sure, it was a revolution for console gamers, but on the PC it's true blandness became obvious. It's not bad, it's just pretty mediocre. But it IS one of the better shooters available for consoles, yes. The standard for certain genres is just higher at the PC platform, including PC. Besides, if your face is less than a meter away from the screen, it adds to the tension. Lying down in a couch with your tv 2-3 meters ahead of you doesn't really promote atmosphere, which a lot of recent games seem to emphasize on (what recent action game hasn't had a horror segment in it, save for Barbie Horse Adventures)

@Facey, your 'problem' is very easy to solve. Just play something else. I play loads of different genres, yet there is one prevalent each time. I've had my RTS period (WC3, AoM, C&C:G), my FPS (UT99, Medal of Honor, UT2k4), a platformer period (PoP series), etc. etc. The most recent period was RPG (Morrowind, Oblivion, Guild Wars, Final Fantasy VII), and a few flings with party games, but I'm feeling that it's nearing its end. Starting to show interest in FPS'es again, now. About to reinstall a few old games (including MoH:AA).

Basically, you should just look for some variation in your gaming. And if FPS is the only genre you only really enjoy, then just look for mods for your favorite game. A genre is a genre, and you can never change that, but you can at least change your experiences with it through mods (if not total conversions), or just a different way of play (SP vs MP)

Deus Ex. Kiss: Psycho Circus. Half-Life. Serious Sam. Thank you.

The point I was trying to make there is that there is (or at least was) a hell of a lot of variation within the FPS genre. You could be anything from a secret agent to a pissed-off roadie battling anything from masons with superpowers to fire breathing clowns on unicycles. However, there does seem to have been rather a glut of "special forces bloke versus mercenaries/terrorists + zombies/mutants/aliens/ghosts/whatever" types in the past few years. As tiredinnuendo (subtle. I like it) said further up, the gaming world used to be swimming in platform games. Seven or eight years ago it was hard to find a PC gaming magazine that didn't have at least three RTS reviews in it. Eventually some other genre will become the dish of the day but in the meantime there's always Wii Sports :)

It's a pattern.Adventure Games > FPS > MMO's

Each genre becomes immensely popular to the point where it oversaturates the market, becomes filled with shovelware and another genre takes over.

In few more years, either TPP,RTS or Action-RPG's will take over.

And of course, there are always tactical shooters.

They seem tedious and hard as nails at first, but investing a little time and interest often pays back in dividends.

Actually, why didn't I mention that? They should play differently from conventional FPSs, and the X360 is littered with them. There, another solution. Of course, it was MattyDienhoff's idea.

All FPSs are the same except for Halo (aka, Captain Bland's monotonous adventure)?

I had this same problem. But then I realized that the guy holding a gun to my head and forcing me to buy games I didn't actually want to play was, in fact, a figment of my imagination. I got some pills to dispel the delusion and I've been doing fine ever since.
