Scott Cawthon has released the trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 4. It seems he's taken the longer than usual development time to take some criticism to heart and make an entirely new type of game.

Instead of watching cameras, you play as a child who can freely move about their home (which of course is haunted by nightmarish versions of Freddy and friends). Your only defense seems to be a flashlight, and the ability to close a door and run to another room and hope that's enough to keep them off your trail.

It is for sure confirmed the protagonist is a child? Sure, the trailer show a child room, but we aren't 100% for the child character.
Also Purple Fan spoted....THE FAN WAS THE KILLER ALL ALONG!!!!!!

Looking at your POV compared to the doors and buildings, the player characters is 3 or 4 feet tall.

And holy shit! He's doing something really new this time. Looks like we have an entire room to move about and keep an eye on now, maybe even a whole house. I think the difficulty may sky rocket.

You know, the over the top Nightmare designs make so much more sense now. At first I figured it was the killer/Bite of 87 victim having hallucinations or whatever, but if the protagonist is a child having a nightmare or whatnot, OF COURSE the animatronics are going to look like that. Because that's what kid's imaginations do!

My theory based on the preview image (and still appliable by the trailer): You are the killer in ther first trilogy that is now in hell.
Also a possibility, as being turned into a child and being stalked by demonic animatronics for all eternity would make for one ironic Hell. However, it's more likely that this is the house of whoever bought what was left of the Freddy Fazbear stuff after the fire, and their kid was so freaked out by what their parents had brought home that they started having nightmares. Whether or not there's anything supernatural going on remains to be seen.

If that's the case though, I expect that the whole Bite of 87 thing will get addressed in mini-games.

Prediction: there will still be a phone with a new message on the answering machine that you can access every night by entering the living room, probably from Phone Dude talking about the sale and how bummed out he is that the whole horror attraction thing didn't work out. Though it would be awesome if, out of nowhere, the last two calls turn out to be from Phone Guy, who's now revealed to have survived and is trying to help you escape.

Oh man! I wonder if Markiplier is going to say "Hello everyone, my name is Markiplier and this is Five Nights at Freddy's 4!"
Man, the anticipation is killing me!
Although I will say this is the first game to interest me since FNAF1 because its not in a horribly contrived restaurant or a tacky amusement park deliberately trying to cause haunted manikins to come to life.

I've never really cared much about FNAF, but I saw a reaction vid (because I love watching Andre from Black Nerd Comedy and Katie Wilson together, even if the stuff they're doing bores me) and the change of pace is pretty neat at least. Still don't know if I'd play it, but I'm more interested than in 3. Or 2. Or 1, really.

How do you know the parents aren't deliberately trying to cause haunted mannequins to come to life?

I have a similar theory in that you're the serial killer but when he/ she was a kid (before FNAF2 cos in 2 there were those Bonnie toys etc and maybe the parent won some but the kid imagination got the better of him or her). Basically when this ordeal was over, it had competely fuck him or her up mentally to the point he or she become the child killer of the series.

OT- Danm, Halloween is so far away now as I want to see the let played videos of it now.

My guess is you're a babysitter looking after a little kid who is the son/daughter of either an ex-security guard from FNAF or was the man who first created the animatronics and either "adopted" some after the restaurants closed or they machines have always been evil.

Well it looks interesting, which is about all I need given that the games aren't expensive. I might check it out after it's out like I did with 3. I like the idea that they seem more playful in their creepiness. Cawthon tried that with Springtrap in FNaF 3, but honestly that just made Sprintrap come off as a massive prick because he was the only one and he just enjoyed fucking with you.

...Well, somebody had to do it (Let it finish first and then replay it to make sure the audio syncs properly. Because it just isn't as good when the visual jumps the gun).

Personally, I kinda like the 'hell' hypothesis, myself, if only because I think it ties in a bit better to the background plot than the others would.

Mine and my friends initial speculation was that after the horror attraction burns down and the remaining parts were auctioned off, a FNAF enthusiast buys the parts and tries to rebuild the robots. If we run off the bad ending, the children's spirits are still trapped inside and are still trying to kill anything they see. If we run off the good ending, where they're spirits are laid to rest, that left a vacancy open in the animatronics for something much more sinister to take hold.

These were just ideas we were throwin' around, not much evidence to support them, just ideas.
I'm wondering what the story behind the Plushie Springtrap is though. I'm thinkin' he's from the horror attraction gift shop but why he would be possessed, mm, no idea.

I have a few other questions though that I can't come up with anything for. Why can't we flick on a lightswitch? I could buy doors taking power to keep shut but this house has no electricity, what's up? The Hell idea could work for that though. And the whole five nights and midnight to 6AM goals was the work week and the time these attractions opened; we're in a house, shouldn't they're "active mode" be whenever the sun goes down and comes back up?
I'm not losing any sleep over this (although that might change after I play the game) I'm just wonderin'.

Hoo, I didn't expect to write this much, guess I'm more into it than I thought.

At any rate, can't wait to play it in the dark with headphones at the lowest possible volume. I'm a chicken, I tried to turn them up in the last games, just couldn't do it.

Also, looks like we might be getting it a little early.

I'll be honest, this is a series that scares me.
Yet the jumpscares, characters, or insane theories aren't the most scariest thing.

It is the abominations of fanart that swarm over us like a hungry horde.
Especially the adult stuff which is more merciless than the actual game.

Okay, if I'm serious, I actually like the theories people come up with.

I was just getting ready to roll my eyes at this, but it seems like they've done enough to make it worthy of a sequel this time.

My theory for this game is that it takes place right after the bite of '87. Think about it, how many kids were there when that shit happen. Atleast a few kids would have had nightmares of that.

Ok, Ive got to give credit where credit is due. Hes trying something different rather then going with the same old formula thats been done in three other games. However, I think I might have been more interested if he had improved that core gameplay (like letting us set and activate traps) but I wont fault him for trying something new either.

I havnt played FNAF since the first one and Ill probably keep an eye on this one. Might even buy it

In fairness, the only game mechanics that have remained through all three are the whole checking cameras while remaining stationary thing. One of the things I like about the series is that while the basic idea is preserved, each game has its own gimmick that has to be learned and mastered through trial and error, so each one really does feel different. First game was pretty much this...

...plus limited resources, so the whole thing felt like trying to take care of a gaggle of evil schoolchildren who are just waiting for the second your back is turned so they can run up and piss in your face.

Second game feels more like a siege game, where you're under constant assault from a relentless army that you have to fend off while at the same time having stall a very cranky timebomb that would love to explode under your ass. This is the one I'm working my way through right now, and I can tell you that mastering the formula from the first game was no goddamned help at all. Stupid Faceless Bonnie, what did I ever do to you...

I haven't gotten to the third game yet, but it seems to be more equivalent to leading a hungry t-rex around with a laser pointer while a bunch of garden gnomes constantly rush in to kick you in the shins and snap your laser pointer in half, necessitating the use of lots and lots of duct tape. This one I actually like the best, as unlike the first to you constantly have to use the cameras to survive and seek out the animatronic's location instead of checking on one or two specific rooms while ignoring the rest.

Even so, I guess Scott either ran out of ideas to use with the whole camera thing or just got tired of it. I'm very interested to see how this whole explore the house thing is going to work out.

Word. Wanna find terrifying art of Springtrap on tumblr or whatever? Well, I hope you don't mind swimming through a couple dozen Rule 34 pics before finding even one!
