I want to pose a little question that has been bothering me for a while. Why do people feel the need to dictate what other people can do, own, believe or say. I really don't understand why I can't be left to myself, why someone else has to step in and direct me like I'm some child. So Escapist I want you to come and tell me why some politician hundreds of miles away gets to decide what's right for ME.

Because while you may be supposed to learn from your own mistakes, some mistakes will kill you. For example, when you were a baby, if your parents didn't stop you from shoving keys into a light socket you could end up killing yourself.

Depends, what is it this politician is telling you is right for you?

Or perhaps you're miffed at the whole idea of a greater authority controlling you?

The Grue firmly believes that 90% of mankind is in desperate need of those controls, too stupid, cruel or helpless to do otherwise. You're just caught in the crossfire.

Or you could have gained super human electrical powers. You will never know because of that damn politician hundreds of miles away

Or, if homicide was legal, you could have been killed at any point in your life just for kicks.

Exactly. Sometimes laws actually do stop bad things from happening.

This brings me to another thread about anarchy I thought of starting. See a real anarchist isn't those idiots you see on tv rioting and breaking things. A real anarchist, hell any responsible person shouldn't need laws to keep him from acting like an ass. Obviously their are certain laws that everyone should follow to insure they don't accidentally or intentionally hurt someone. My problem starts when politicians go beyond those laws and start dictating what I do in my own home, what I do with my body and what I believe in.

A blast from the past; to quote an 80's song, "Everybody wants to rule the world." You just happen to be in it, sorry =T. There is a way out: become a politician. I'm still pissed off about Spitzer.

I don't know, I always thought jamming forks into your eyes was the epitome of cool. All the rebels are doing it. Most don't live, but they go down in a hail of awesome.

I'm still pissed at every politician New York seems to find. Massive unemployment, crime, a crashing state and federal economy and they still have the sheer fucking gall to give themselves pay raises.

Yeah, tell me about it! My city raised taxes by 2%, utilities rates went up by 9%, and late fee assessment from 10% late fee to 15% late fee of delinquent payments. Why? Because the city was in a deficit because people couldn't pay their taxes and bills lol.

Remember politicians are elected, usually, because they reflect the views of the majority of their consituency or as the case may be their own prejudices. Best example here is the Attorny General in South Australia who refuses to open the floor for debate regarding adult rating games. So, until he changes his mind or quits we're stuck in limbo.

Also political correctness has been the primary driver behind many of these sorts of laws. Society needs to loosen up a little.

Yes and a true communist is someone who will work his ass of all day, every day without any promise that his hard work will pay of. Because everyone gets the same as everyone else.

Like communisme, anarchy is a fairy tale. It will never work. Laws are annoying but also necessary.

But I agree on one thing, when they start dictating what you can or can't do with your body. That's where I draw the line. If for some reason I want to jam a fork through my hand I think I should have the right to do so! Not that I would ever want to but it's nice to know that I can.

Anarchy is the lack of hierarchy rather than total chaos. Most people who claim to be anarchists are in fact chaosists.

As to the original question, I believe it's a matter of people thinking they're right, and hence other people should agree with them. Also, power is like a drug. Addictive as hell.

You say you want to be fully independent of all authority... but I'm sure you want running water, security, food and all the things we enjoy now. You need authority to have society, and you need society to enjoy the life you have now.

Because you can't be trusted to think for yourself, none of us can. watch out, government agent robots trawl the internet, looking for people who question the system as you have done. They're coming for you. They're coming right now, get out, run, don't look back.......
