The Washington Post reports that 15 former employees of Washington’s NFL team, all women, have accused team staff of verbal abuse and sexual misconduct. Those accused include Alex Santons, former director of pro personnel; Larry Michael, former senior vice president and longtime play-by-play announcer; and Richard Mann II, former assistant director of pro personnel. If you’re wondering why their job titles are all preceded with the word “former,” that’s because all of the above are no longer employed by the organization.

Others accused of inappropriate conduct include Dennis Greene, former president of business operations, who “implored female sales staff to wear low-cut blouses, tight skirts and flirt with wealthy [suite holders];” and Mitch Gershman, former chief operating officer, who “routinely berated [an accuser] for trivial problems such as printer malfunctions while also complimenting her body.”

There were no allegations made against team owner Daniel Snyder, though it’s important to note that Greene and Gershman were considered part of his “inner circle.”

So the name change rumors weren’t really them bowing to pressure, but an attempt to cut this off, huh? Man, Washington football really shouldn’t exist.
Edit- before anyone calls me a coward for not using a slur in what some may call a reasonable context, I have phrased this intentionally to also apply to the Seahawks, who are the scum of the earth.

It'll be interesting to see if the other 31 owners try to oust Dan Snyder over this.

To the best of my knowledge, there has only been one owner forced out of the NFL by the owners, Jerry Richardson of the Carolina Panthers. He was basically caught using a whole lot of racist language (sounds like a certain Washington Team Name...) and sexual misconduct/sexual harassment of employees (Hi WP article!). Dan Snyder is also not particularly well liked by....well....anyone as most people who leave the organization generally has some really not nice things to say about him.

On the other hand though, Redskins is their team name and obviously the other 31 owners have been OK enough with it (until now when it starts to affect their bottom line as sponsors pull out but I don't think any owner has publically come out to call for a name change) so I'm not sure you can ding Dan Snyder (in the NFLs eyes) for racism. The sexual misconduct/sexual harassment part also seems to ensnare a LOT of Washington employees but unless I've missed it, Dan Snyder himself is not implicated in doing the misconduct. I can't imagine there's no way he could have not known about it but they'd have to be able to prove it.

Ultimately, the owners may want to dump Dan Snyder but all of them are going to protect their own interests as well. Specifically in this case, I think they're going to need some kind of slam dunk evidence that Snyder was part (either directly because he was doing the harassing or indirectly where he knew about it but specifically helped cover it up) of it because the owners are going to want to make sure that they are also protected. The NFL makes those owners a LOT of money so none of them are going to want to force an owner to sell without some kind of bulletproof reason for it because they don't want one day for them to be on the other side of the gun and be forced to sell.

They'll have to be pushed to the wire, if for no other reason than they'll want mininal precedent if anyone ever comes for them.

Rivalry and competition might be things, but ultimately the elites will rally around each other if challenged from without..

This is exactly what I was trying to say with my last paragraph but you put it so much better than I did :D

The NFL looks more like shit every single year. There is reason why I stopped giving a rat's ass about them. The whole system stinks of sexism, racism, and pretending to be "patriotic". All it ever comes down to is the money and blowing Trump, because they actually fear him.

They are probably pre-pushed to the wire. We're Post-Floyd now. And NFL has already been caught on the wrong side of history on that. One bad apology later, and I'm assured that there is a ton of pressure to appear humane and diversity-minded.
