Low time-to-kill per enemy.

Shooting an enemy and having him die is fun and satisfying. Shooting an enemy and having him lose 6% of his healthbar is dreary.

If it's a multiplayer game, please have dedicated servers and a server browser. Just three hours into CoD IW's beta made me swear off matchmaking forever.

Skins, make them suit the game. I don't know how anyone can even consider spending money on three quarters of the skins in CSGO, CoD, etc.

If you are going down the "hero shooter" route (the "over" in the name might not be intentional but it still makes me think of Overwatch), being super diverse, within the scope of the setting and lore, would be great.

Look nice for something so early. Like the design of the main character.
But what kind of story it have? Maybe with it can create a gameplay merchanic around it.

The main issue with FPS games is that there are lots of them. There are at least a few hundred really good ones, many of them selling for bargain prices on GOG or Steam. Why should we play yours? You need something to make your game a little different in some way. Something to make it stand out.

Reminds me of borderlands and why I gave up on it.

Gore, strafe jumping, no super spongy enemies, semi-open levels, demonic art style, meaty weapons.

Or at least have bullet sponges communicate lowering health in a visceral manner - if you take off 25% of that mechs health, have its shoulder explode, or have its armour become visibly worn, etc

I'd say there's a balance, that may vary between whatever game modes you're using.

6% is definately kind of crap. It shouldn't take 20 hits to kill anything that isn't some sort of boss.

On the opposite side of spectrum, a lot of shooters with low time to kills end up making 90% of their weapon variety obsolete. If everything kills in 1 bullet (or even 2), you render anything but the highest rate of fire or longest range weapons obsolete.

I could list out things I like in shooters, but the list would be small because the number of shooters that already include things like "crunchy good weapon sounds" is so large that I'd be stupid for saying it like it's not obvious.

I'm going to have to go with Bad Jim. In almost every shooter people shoot things and they shoot things good. You're going to have to do something a bit different.

Per this undated [http://indiegamemag.com/dont-overstep-your-bounds-in-overstep/] preview of Overstep in Indie Game Magazine,
"Purchases don't affect gameplay or game balance, unless you want to look cooler than your friends," Gamecam promises. "Overstep will never become a pay-to-win game."
That's very interesting to me. It seems that when anyone charges anything less than $60 for a full game, it can become associated with a "budget" title and therefore scare people away. That's a good approach. Granted, it would require that people actually want to play your game in the first place, and perhaps even continue playing.

What would you call that? 'Pay to bling'?

Thank you guys so much for the feedback! I didnt even expect to get that many replies :D All of this is very useful and will be taken into consideration.
One of the hardest challenges is indeed trying to stand out from other FPS games. Luckily we have numerous ideas to make sure that gamers have a different experience playing Overstep and ofcourse proper matchmaking that Bob_McMillan mentioned is a huge priority for us since everyone in our team is completely sick of crappy matchmaking.

Thank you guys again!
