The other guy is still sleeping so I'm here to tell you CoH2 is free on steam this weekend, offer ends December 10. Courtesy of pcgamer where I read this thing.

The game is an rts, leaning on similar gameplay to the older more serious red alerts, although your armies will be smaller and I found tactics to be significantly more intuitive, supporting more than everybody's fav "make bunch of guys, rclick on enemy, wait" for those who are interested.

Graphics aren't bad, VA is decent, and the campaign was quite secent by my memory.

That's a game I was always interested in but at the time, did not have the PC to do anything with.

I do not know if my PC is good enough now to play it but the game is five years old so that's gotta be promising...right?

Either way, Free is a hard gamble to lose.

I've never played either of the CoH games. But I just researched them. Looks like the first one was hugely popular. The second one was apparently controversial because of its portrayal of the Soviets. It is banned in Russia, and it looks like they review bombed it, because it has a 2.0/10 user score on Metacritic, lol.

I will probably check them out at some point. I like RTS, and I'm a history buff. Thanks.

You were right, I was asleep. Damn the limitations of my feeble mortal body. Also, not gonna lie, kind of creeped out you knew about that. Are you watching me sleep? Getting some "Edward from Twilight" stalky vibes.

Anyways, thanks for picking up the slack.

I've never given the campaign another look after having to burn the houses of people while they were in it or fleeing. I'm the type of person that has to be ok with the decisions of what my character does. I get that it's war, but war should be between soldiers who signed up for the battle. Civilians treated like that is beyond words.

I was already teetering from having to mow down retreating infantry. It turns out real depictions of war simply aren't for me.

The campaign is rough if you're soft hearted. I am. The Skirmish reminded me too much of Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2. Which I played first

Knowing that I'm soft hearted, does it come to anyone's surprise that my favorite Space Marine Chapter are the Salamanders [http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Salamanders]?

I don't even log into Steam nowadays. I assume you might have been the same and thus don't pick up these things

Nah, freebies are usually posted either 10 AM or somewhere in the afternoon, both PST/PDT, while I live in a timezone 9 hours ahead. The former I pick up on unless I'm busy, but the latter means I'm usually already asleep while they go live and don't notice till about 6 to 8 hours in. As was probably the case here.
