Hey, hey, hey, hey! Ooooooooh, Owwooooooho! Ok, good, now that I've got the intro to that one Simple Minds song out of my head (and probably into yours), anyone feel like playing an old construction and management game? Today, for you:

[HEADING=2]Anno 1602 [https://store.ubi.com/us/game/?dwvar_58ab345b6b54a4cc2a8b4567_Platform=pcdl&pid=58ab345b6b54a4cc2a8b4567&lang=en_US&edition=Standard%20Edition&source=detail][/HEADING]

So Ubisoft is giving this game away for free until 23 december, and being Ubisoft, it of course requires UPlay. To get it, you're supposed to click the button labeled "GET IT FOR FREE BEFORE 12/23" below the "Add to cart" button, or from within the UPlay client, to the right of the "Store" tab. That said, I installed UPlay and tried both methods, but I haven't been able to actually get this to work.

Maybe some of you will have more luck, so if interested, you know, give it a shot.

Done and done. Go home. Or if you're already home, somewhere other than this thread.

Thanks Monkeyman!

I loved playing this game back in the day, along with all other kinds of construction and management sims.

I managed to get the game by opening UPlay on my PC ( after installing it ). When I opened it it had a "Anno 1602-Giveaway!" button at the top, clicking it opened the game's page with a button saying "Get your copy for free". Clicking this button started the installation of the game.

Funny thing, I forgot my password and had to do a recovery, then I noticed that some Russian had apparently logged into my account at some time... Luckily they have 2-step verification.

Now to go and hunt down some Age of Empires II, Caesar 3 and Pharaoh.

Edit: Damn, other programs keep flickering when I have the game open... now off to find a way to play it in windowed mode.

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to work, but it doesn't for me. That "Anno 1602-Giveaway!" button doesn't show in my client. Neither does the store for that matter. Had a look into it and apparently the in-client store (and everything related to it) doesn't appear if all your Ubisoft games were bought through Steam. In short, seems you can't get freebies through Uplay unless you bought directly from Ubisoft before (tho product keys might also work).

Not really sure how I feel about that. It rpetty much breaks one of my cardinal rules for these threads: NO payment of any kind can be required, whether it's being subscribed to some premium service (i.e. PS+, Xbox Live Gold, ...) or prior purchases.

I've had that with my Epic Games account. Like, a lot. 11 attempts in the last year or so. There's nothing in there either, except for the free UT4 beta and very recently the currently equally free Subnautica.

Funny, I never bought anything through UPlay.

I only ever used my Ubisoft account when playing Assassin's Creed on PlayStation, Child of Light and Grow Home, where I did exchange some trophy points for in-game items, but I never made a real purchase.

Unless that Russian fellow loaded up money onto my account and bought stuff... which I doubt.

Yeah, it's not entirely clear what conditions cause the Store tab and related stuff to not show up in UPlay. Seems to have something to do with buying through Steam and/or launching UPlay through Steam, but the proposed fixes for that don't work for me.

Not that I mind. Pretty sure I can live with Ubisoft apparently not wanting my money. Just tried it to provide info for the OP.

Actually happened to me. From around 2008 to 2011, I didn't have a PC capable of running current games, so I basically didn't use Steam at all in that period. It somehow got hijacked by someone during. Got it back through customer support, including the dozen or so games the hijacker had bought with his own money. Might've been a little morally dubious to keep them, but whatever, I'm calling it compensation. Mine now.
