Sup homies! Here's the first freebie of the year. What, you thought there would be no more? That it was over?
Anyway, today, for you:

[HEADING=2]What Remains of Edith Finch [https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/what-remains-of-edith-finch/home][/HEADING]

What Remains of Edith Finch will be free on the Epic Games Store from january 10th to january 24th. You get the game through the link above or through the Epic Games Launcher, and it'll be added directly to your client's library.

So, Epic's been holding true to their word. A free game every two weeks. Even if it's just to entice people into using their platform, it's nice and the games have been good ones so far. I've also noticed The Division 2 will be coming to Epic instead of Steam. Ubisoft just testing the water or a sign the big AAA publishers are jumping ship?

. Because while I've only launched it half a dozen times, there have been quite a few problems for me. Refusing to launch at all. One or two reinstalls later, unable to connect to servers. Saying my login and password are incorrect even though I'm 100% sure they are. Yay, time to request a password change again. Then requiring a code for two-factor authentication, but taking so long to send it, the code is expired by the time I get it. And while that's not really Epic's fault, there have been several attempts to hijack my account. Maybe I'm being unfair, but my user experience with this client hasn't been the smoothest.

The division 2 will be exclusively on epic store from what I understand.

I used to have a message from epic every 2-3 days about unsuccessful attempt to get in my epic account (I made one to play paragon way back). I think it's more a case that fortnite is so popular some people are just randomly trying to get into random account by plugging in random password for millions of email addresses, I'm guessing fortnite account with lots of random goody can be sold.

Free game, neat.
Oh its on the epic store, nevermind. Shame, since I've heard enough about it to pique my curiosity, but I guess I'll be avoiding it for now

I haven't really tried to use the Epic launcher so far so I can't comment.

I really enjoyed What Remains of Edith Finch, being perhaps one of the best examples of how to make a Walking Simulator compelling(Kentucky Route Zero would be my other pick but it's rather wierd and I appreciate a lot of people might not see the appeal). Crawling through the main characters family home, which is now abandoned, and seeing the rooms of the last 3 generations of her family, most of whom died tragic deaths and small vignettes depicting how their ends, all done in a unique fashion. It's linear as hell but compelling.

Notable mentions are Gregory and Lewis(more famously known as the Cannery), both of which stick out as being particular sad at least for me.

Its one of those questions, like 'Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?'

When we get down to it, what does remain of Edith Finch?

I've been having an OK time with the launcher, although thus far I've only used it for Ashen and even then only periodically (buggered my hand, controller hurts to use). I did notice that it was way less stable before I put it on my SSD rather than the HDD. That could be my old-ass HDD on its last legs, or it could be an read/write speed issue making things bind up.

I haven't had any problems with the client launching or connecting. One time it required me to re-input my login, and I don't mind doing it every once in a while. And I set up 2-step through Google Authenticate and it works just fine. Maybe its because I'm using it nearly every day though. I'm still waiting for Avalanche to fix Just Cause 4 (seriously, a month and 10 days and still unplayable on PC, and NO updates from the devs for a whole month?) and because of Epic's giveaway I'm having a blast with Subnautica. I picked up Super Meat Boy and What Remains of Edith Finch too. Wonder if I'll be able to get through both before Avalanche gets their shit together. Again, a month and 10 days and still unplayable on PC, and NO updates from the devs for a whole month. Seriously, going forward DO NOT BUY games from Avalanche Studios. At least wait until customer reviews come out.

Epic client launches and connects just fine now. Not sure exactly why the problems are gone, but I did do a nice thorough registry cleaning this past weekend, along with some general PC maintenance, so I'm guessing something might've been wrong there.
