Hello fellow escapists! I'm in a really really really big pickle here. After being fed up with watching Wii get stomped on and flamed like it was an overly cooked burger I've decided to get an XBox 360. I thought I would never get one in my life. But I haven't got it yet. There is a major road block to which I'm facing. So here's how it goes.

My mom says we're not getting another video game "machine." So I'm like ok I'll just sell my wii. Even though I'll be missing out on Metrods Prime Trilogy (which I want). But my dad doesn't like the 360s controllers. So I've been trying to tell him practice using our gamecube controller and play Call of Duty 2 Big Red One. That way he can get familiar to what the actual controls are like. But he keeps playing World at War on the Wii and pays no attention to my advice. Now I don't want to be a jack and say tough nubs for you dad I'm selling the Wii and all it's games and getting a 360 whether you like it or not.

So do any of you escapists have any ideas to how I can get a 360 yet still not get another gaming system (which will require selling my Wii) and still be far to my dad? I'm open to almost anything!!!

Buy the thing yourself? Unless your family won't allow that either, in which case just keep the Wii. Metroid Prime Trilogy, man!

At first it seems like a jump, but you'll quickly realize how much you were missing out on. The 360's controls work so much better than the Wii's, and if he thinks World at War is fun on the Wii, wait until he sees it with good graphics. Or, you could save up and get a 360 without selling the Wii.

Trust me, I have both a 360 and a Wii and I never use my Wii. The 360 is the way to go. You'll get used to the controllers, I swear.

I can think of so many better games that aren't on the Wii than can beat the hell out of Metroid. I mean, you're missing out on Gears of War, Prototype, BioShock, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, and so many more games. Really, sacrificing Metroid is worth it.

If your birthday is coming up soon, buy a 360/PS3 (same price now), and argue that it's your money. If that doesn't work, try getting a job, and repeating the 2nd step of the first option. If that doesn't work, try Christmas, or Hanukkah, or whatever Festival of Lights you have. But whatever you do, don't sell your Wii. I managed a 360 with all of the factors (except the controller trouble). Good luck!

I don't think my mom would allow me to get it even if I payed for every F*CKING cent! But yeah metrods Prime trilogy looks kick ass and it probably the best FPS on Wii (until Modern Warfare comes out for it in november but it will still f*ck up the original versions) But I'm tired of watching game makers jack off making these f*cked up games and watering down good games like world at war. So that's why I want a 360.

BUUUUUUT I think I have a perfect Idea. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!
You see my dad's a fireman. So he stays at the station often (part time) So maybe I can have him take the Wii to the station keep it there and I get a 360 at home. But he's a part time fireman so he's home more then he's at the station. So that plan can easily back fire.

Consoles are toys, and as far as many older people are concerned a game is just a game - your parents probably figure there's no need to have a 360 as long as you have a Wii. If your parents refuse to understand that the systems are different in what they can offer, you're out of luck.

Seriously, buy a 360 yourself. If you can't afford one, try getting a job. I have a job and buy things, so I can give you my personal assurance that the plan will work.

Forgive me if im starting a flame war, but for me (Metroid Prime 3 in particular) was more enjoyable than all of those games, and i prefer quality over quantity. I am a Wii owner myself, but i am also a smarmy PC gamer so i can play all of the games you mentioned, along with many your likely to mention

No they understand a gaming system is a gaming system and all that junk. But my mom doesn't want another one in the house. (even though our PC and MAC as considered ones But she'll just let that pass through.) But I'll talk to her once she wakes up (yep she's still sleeping 9:12 where I live) about if I pay every cent.

Except for Fable 2 and 3.

The point is a Will to 360 step is a huge jump, not only in terms of games that you play but also the RRoD which may strike the 360. A small price to pay but then again if you really want the 360 go and get it.

I really don't understand why you want the 360 (not that its useless, I love my 360 to death but your reason for switching seems to be based on "because everyone flames the wii). That reason alone shouldn't warrant a console change.

Get a PS3 slim instead!!!!OMG ITS AWESOME!!!
now that my fanboy urge is satisfied, I'd say either pester your parents enough till they cave or get a job(which is probably really hard now) and pay for it yourself.

Tell your mom that you aren't getting another game console, your getting a different one. Tell her it's like cars and pick-up trucks, both small consumer vehicles but they do different things.

And if that doesn't work tell her that she doesn't need another pair of shoes or another shirt or whatever thing she wants but definitely doesn't need next time she's looking at one. Assuming she defends her position in a way that acknowledges her possible purchase as a luxury item you should immediately mirror her defense and apply it to you getting a 360.

If not explain to her that they do not do they do the same thing and that getting a 360 while owning a Wii is not superfluous. If she insists that it is superfluous say: "Styrofoam cups and tanker ships both float. Do they do the same thing?"

If your mom won't yield her malformed position consider telling her that she's just being stubborn and that you will buy the 360 yourself and this will have little if any impact on her life.

here's my rebuttal! I'd rather get a 360 because I know its better than PS3. Wii is better than PS3 money wise and statistics.

Maybe your dad would prefer the PS3 controller. He may be willing to let you get that instead and there really isn't much between the 2 systems, especially since the PS3 price drop.

Or, if the Wii is classed as yours rather than a family console, sell it to your dad cheap and get the 360 for yourself.

I say save up for it either way, if all else fails. If she takes the console from you after you paid every penny/cent/drachma then that's a tad unreasonable, have your dad back you up with some kind of reason as to why you should keep it.

You know my stance on the Wii, I feel there are far too many great games on that system to warrant selling it, and I would only really say you should sell it if there aren't any games coming out that interest you (which you said there are, Prime Trilogy for one). So really I'm going to have to end up being no help and say "save up for it, and get your dad to back you up when you buy it as to why you should keep it".

Just keep the Wii. Come on, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Red Steel 2...um...any other games that could be good.
I, personally, like all of them and I don't think ANYTHING is wrong with the Wii. People exaggerate its flaws(graphics, controls) and I only think that these are problems because no games ever use the Wii's capabilities. The Wii's graphics are fine because nobody ever uses the damn thing for graphics. They just want to make a terrible game where you break your wrist(s) to do a simple thing. I am expected to get flamed for this by people who say things like, "lol u r stupd xbx360 iz betr thn all lol" If I could play my PS3 more, I would. I really like it. If there were more good games for Wii, I would play them. If a slightly interesting game comes out for 360, I get it. If a game released by Valve is on Steam, I hope it doesn't come out on 360 ( :( L4D2).

In short, don't kill the Wii. Kill the game developers, because they just want to make gimmicks rather than a game. But this was off topic, so in real short, KEEP IT.
