Last year Extra Credits started its run on the Escapist, and shortly after it did i saw and commented on a short thread that asked people what they thought about it. It has now been one full year (at least it will be tomorrow) and i decided to build another thread devoted to what people think of the show. Personally i think it's a great show, showing and thinking up solutions to problems that plague the industry. What do you think?

Witty, insightful and beautifully done. I love EC and all it has to offer. Sometimes opinions differ, but I always respect what they have to say.
Also, so happy the surgery was a success!

I love it. Sometimes they get a little preachy and philosophical, but in a way I like that.

I watch it every week but I don't usually enjoy it (so why do I watch it? I blame the catchy intro song). They either tell me things that I already know or aren't relevant to me. Maybe I could get something out of it if I was a game developer... or if the show was funny... or if I was an idiot and couldn't come up with my own intelligent opinions.

Being a media scholar myself, it's easily my favourite content on the web.

It's insightful, if not always theoretically correct. (I DO have a lot of media theory under my belt...)
And I love their style of presentation. <3

Well, technically they started on their Youtube channel a few years before coming over here: http://www.youtube.com/user/kirithem
But congrats to them for being dedicated enough to make a new episode every week for a full year! xD

[sub]As for what I think about them... Well, it's hard to sum it up. It's nice to see intelligence in this medium for once?[/sub]

It's easily my favorite show on the site. When you're trying to get a particular game to succeed in the world it's always nice to get advice from people with more long-term experience in the industry.

I feel lucky to have met them here. I wasn't aware of their Youtube channel, so for me EC was brand new when it was first shown here. Really like the show. It's fun and insightful, always offering something new and interesting to nibble on. The episodes could be longer and more indepth, but I understand it's not that simple to host a weekly show, so I´ll gladly take what I can get.

EC makes thursdays more interesting.

While I've only really started watching EC with the Free Speech episode, it's been by far my favorite series on and off The Escapist. And I've certainly learned a lot from them.

And I'm sure these pages speak for the rest of EC Nation:

I like 'em. They're informative, entertaining, and uplifting. When we have enough of doom and gloom, here's Extra Credits to give us a bit of hope.

It's been a year already, wow it feels like the show's been here for years I guess it has earned it's spot in the escapist.

Absolutely amazing! I didn't ever think about games in the absolute detail that they go into until they showed up.
Brilliant!

Extra Credit is a bunch of pretentious, pseudo-intellectual dribble blatantly pandering to members of the equally pretentious and pseudo-intellectual "games are art" movement. Many legitimate points EC might have made in most of their videos are almost immediately drowned and crippled by pompous and almost smug over-analysis that strikes me almost as parody over-analyses. Even further, their analysis is usually accompanied by total misinformation, the exploitation and stretching of facts to suit their given argument, or outright making up points and expecting the audience to merely accept. This results in a serious look at the show to reveal tons of holes in their logic which just goes to outline their pandering.

Overall, it's overly pandering to the rubbish "games are art" people without even attempting to hide this blatant and despicable pandering. If EC is not intent on being so far up their own ass, then they can make decent points, but this seldom happens as they have to maintain an air of suffocating pretentious in order to appeal to their core demographic.

I know I said pandering a lot, but that's ALL the show is: pandering to the "games are art" people.

They're a decent series

They do come off as a bit preachy at times. I belive they know what they are talking about, they could just do better at getting that point across.

Extra Credits is by far the best video series on the Escapist, and amongst the best on the web.

I really just wish they'd stop plugging MovieBob.

It would really help if you used citations. Like where do they have total misinformation.

Why do I have to "cite" my opinion? The OP asked what people think of EC, and I gave my opinion about EC. Do people have to cite why they think it is good now? -_-

Anyways, one example of them using misinformation is in one of their mailbag episodes where they said that PC gaming is dying because you need a "multi-thousand dollar" rig to be a PC gamer (they also failed to mention the fact that sales statistics from digital distribution services are often not released, which is a big deal since that is where a majority of sales on the platform take place, but that's a different thread). There have been a few other ones here and there (most of them are kind of minor), but that one always sticks out in my mind because it is just SOOOOO WRONG. How people who claim to be on the inside of the gaming be so incredibly disconnected about that sort of thing? I don't know to accuse them of deliberate USE of misinformation since they seem to have a bias towards consoles and seldom discuss PC gaming, or if they are just THAT ignorant about this sort of thing. Either way, it was a HUGE mistake that is the definition of misinformation.

I've watched only a few episodes but I like 'em, well presented and at times pretty clever. The only annoying thing about these kind of shows is that you get those people who feel the need to recite the viewpoints of the show as their personal holy bible without thinking for themselves or coming up with their own views on the matter.
