I see everyone here is real excited about it so I figured I'd let you know something so you can all stop being ignorant when discussing it:

*ahem*

Suda 51 IS NOT developing/making Lollipop Chainsaw

He's the producer and an admittedly absent one at that. James Gunn is the primary creative force for the title and the writer for the title.

Secondary tidbit: Suda also was an executive producer on Shadows of the Damned and had very little to do with game. Shinji Mikami also states he basically showed up once a month to check on progress. The director of THAT game was Massimo Guarini.

Now you know, and knowing is like, half the battle, or something.

...And what isn't awesome about James Gunn? Have you seen Super? that was a pretty sweet movie, and he wrote the 2004 dawn of the dead.

Yeah Suda 51 doesn't have much involvement but it is being developed by grasshopper and they haven't disappointed, plus Lollipop chainsaw looks just as out there and unique as their previous works.

Look at a thread titled "lollipop Chainsaw is a terrible idea" on this very forum and you'll see why I posted it. Just want to make sure people know Suda has little involvement and just because things are developed by Grasshopper, doesn't mean it has anything to do with Suda. Grasshopper has become a company of increased size and has many more developers to show off.

The same thing irks me when people confuse a publisher for a developer.

I understand, however Suda had little to do with Shadows of the damned as well and I felt the game was quite in line with the rest of the work he is often associated with. Regardless of how things are playing out I still have high hopes for the game though.

Indeed.

Also, my second tidbit in the first post says the same about Shadows of the Damned. Mikami also states he had little to do with it as well.

The initial concepts that Suda had for Shadows of the Damned were shot down by EA for not being commercial enough. Apparently they were based more on Franz Kafka than "grindhouse" movies.

And here is the quote from the director of the game about how influential Suda was on the main themes of the game.

Gamasutra: When Suda said it was ?Sid & Nancy in hell,? that made me smile. But do you think that?s apt?

MG: No, I mean that?s honestly what he thinks and I believe it?s true. (laughs)

Or he was just doing producer things and telling PR what he thought the game looked like...

Won't stop it from being awesome.
No one is saying that. In fact, it's my excitement for the release that spawned this thread. And so The Escapist community can stop being laughed at for their lack of research capabilities.

Maybe he was more involved in the early days of the project then handed it over to other people for some reason without really caring that much about it.

Another fun fact: Jimmy Urine from the band Mindless Self Indulgence is working with Akira Yamaoka on the boss fight music. It will be epic.

An executive producer usually doesn't have much to do with the end product aside from raising the funds to get it made in the first place, and making sure that the people who have been hired with the money are spending it the way they're supposed to. If you've ever watched The Producers, it's actually pretty accurate in how they didn't take part in any of the creative process, picking a script off the shelf, filling the director and composer's job, and then letting the people they hired do most of the work.

As much as I love Suda51 it is nice to see other Grasshopper people showcasing their talents. It can be worrying sometimes (for example in Studio Ghibli when Hayao Miyazaki isn't the one directing) you never know of the quality, however from what I've seen of Lollipop so far I'm really impressed with it and I'm loving all the weird and wonderful ads that they are doing as well.

Hey, that is a fun fact!

OT: Looks like they're having a lot of fun making this game. I've probably missed out on most of the "its sexist" crowd by now too, which is good.
