Ok so, I love my cats, but holy hell do they drive me nuts in the morning when I'm trying to sleep before work.

My eldest cat, she has a 3 stage approach when she wants to wake me up to feed her breakfast:

Stage 1: Hop up on the nightstand right by my face, and headbutt me in the face while purring. It's actually very sweet and cute, but she's very insistent about it. *bonk, rub, purr, wait* *bonk, rub, purr, wait* I'll reach up, half-asleep and pet her head, and then pass back out, only to be bonked again firmly right in the nose. If that doesn't get me up...

Stage 2: She starts walking across my head, neck and shoulders. She just hop up on the bed, climb up my body (I sleep on my side), plant a paw on my cheek/chin, the other on my throat, and just literally walk across my face and neck. This puts pressure on my...corotid(?) artery? The one in my neck, which kind of hurts, and wakes me up. But it's only for a split second, and then she walks down my back....and then turns around to do it again. If this doesn't get me up....

Stage 3: She goes and finds some bit of paper or plastic in the room and starts tearing it up with her teeth, making a huge amount of noise. This always gets me up, as the sound just cuts through any ability of mine to relax and go to sleep. Then I get up and feed them, and they leave me alone for a few hours...until the younger kitty decides he wants to climb along the bottom of the bed.....

So what do your pets do to try and wake you up?

Several different cases involving past pets.

{1} "Brrrt!" WHOMP! Heavyset adult cat jumps from floor to your stomach.

{2} Cat will not stop pacing the bed.

{3} "Stop kneading my butt!!!"

{4} Cat will rub wet nose against face repeatedly while making a lout snorting purr sound.

{5} Dog will stand there and breathe heavily at you.

{6} Dog will poke and prod and sniff at you with their nose.

{7} Dog will- "ACHOO!!" Ewww...

{8} Cat will also be loud as all get-out if maybe part Siamese (if you please OR you don't please).

My dog just stares at me.

If I don't get up after a while he starts to fidget and huffs at my lack of getting up. Then he starts to hop around a little if I tell him to "go lay down", and grunts at me.

Eventually he pokes me with his nose until I get up.

He can be very demanding in the morning.

ZOMG so glad to hear that my cat isn't the only one who tears shit up just to get my attention.

But she will continually put her paw on my face. If I roll over she will walk over to the other side of the bed and put her paw on my face again. It is really disturbing to wake up and see a paw, nails outstretched, heading towards your face... If none of that works she will jump off my bed and go find something to destroy.

Back when we still had our rabbit she used to hop on my chest and started to nibble on either my beard or my eyebrows.
I know this sounds cute BUT when she nibbles on your eyebrows she obviously has to stretch over your face and trust me rabbits DO have claws and they can hurt.

They don't, because we kept our cats outside of the bedroom and hallway so they won't bother us at night. They either went outside or in the garage.

I'll probably do the same when I get my own pets. I'm a light, troubled sleeper as is. And as much as I adore cats I won't let them fuck up my good night's rest.

Wasn't my own cat, but when I was sleeping over at a friends Place. His cat would go up on the shelf, which was nearly all the way up to the roof, and jump from there onmy belly.
My mate said I was the only one who ever got that kind of treatment -.-

He used to wake me up in cute funny ways, till that one day he did it in a not so cute and funny way. He basically pissed me out of bed. After that he could stay in the living room. Cats are such Aholes :p

When I fall asleep on the couch and my dogs want to wake me up, one of them will simply sit beside me and lets out this barely audible high-pitched wheezy whining noise. The other? If I take too long to get up, he'll make a running jump into the couch, right on top of me, immediately followed by repeatedly poking my face with his front paws.

I would love to do this, however the cat I mentioned above, has a tactic for this as well. She will take her claws, and starts scratching at the bottom of the door....very LOUDLY. I mean she doesn't hold back. And it just makes this huge racket of claws on wood. So I open the door to make her stop that....and then later on she'll do the things I mentioned above. xD She's a very determined kitty.

My youngest kitty kind of does that, but it's not in the bedroom. He'll climb up on the bookshelf in the computer room, and then leap to the back of my chair while I'm playing a video game. Needless to say this freaks me out, because I'm never expecting it, and suddenly I've got this furball right behind my head. xD

Yeah I know ours would too but we make sure they can't even get into the hallway and stairs going up to the bedrooms. Hence why they're either in the garage or outside at night. They've been pretty much conditioned to want that because that's where they get their evening bowl of wet food. They'll start pawing at the door leading to the garage and trying to lure us towards there around 11 and midnight. Perfect, really.

Our current cats aren't allowed in the bedroom(and we're good about keeping it that way) but they are quite into singing the songs of their people to us whenever they feel that needs to change. Luckily, our determination to keep them out is stronger then their attention span.

On nights where I've fallen asleep on the couch, the cats will be more then happy to turn me into their own personal bed. I don't think this is meant to wake me up, rather just get closer to my warmth.

I never saw this but my wife once had a cat(died before we met) who was very, very good at waking her when he wanted something. He would just come up to her(this is before the No cats in the bedroom rule) and start punching her in the face. No claws, but a cat can put some force behind it's paws when it wants to, so it was pretty hard for her to ignore.

My dog will snuggle up to the back of my head and then, if I still don't notice, she'll start pawing my bald spot.

Yeah, my cat does that with the headbutting. It doesn't hurt, but it's a solid thump to the face. Right between the eyes and the ridge of the nose. *BONK* Can't really ignore it. xD

How rude of her, to wake you by reminding you of your receding hairline! xD

I had a cat that would punch me in the face to kick me out of bed, so she could crawl under the sheets and sleep there for most of the day.

I had a diamond python that would occasionally curl about my blanket or sheets if there was a cold snap at night (and while I was napping). I'm a fairly light sleeper so I could feel her slither around my bed spread. So you take a quick nap from doing homework, dozing off, and forget she's roaming about, you'd occasionally hear a hiss when you're shuffling about. Nothing wakes you up sooner than the hiss of a snake. To be fair, she never bit (except for a few cases of accidental feeding mistakes where your gloved hand smells like warm rabbit and is moving about) ... rather in this case it was a combination of; "Warm thing is human," hiss, slither off, hide.

Yeah, part of me thinks "awww you're adorable", while the other part is thinking "ya, you'd pick that spot wouldn't you?"

Maybe she's trying some alternative treatment, giving you a scalp massage or something to try and stimulate hair growth. xD

Yeah that would freak me out a lot. I don't have a phobia of snakes, but I do appreciate how lethal they can easily be to me as a human. And having one decide to curl up on me while I'm sleeping? Yeah no thanks, I'll pass. xD
