I often get attached to game characters in games I like, for example the crew in Mass Effect. Lovable characters make me care deeply about their fates and ultimately when one dies I always feel sad afterwards.
That said however, maybe it's just my cynical nature, for every character I like there will always be a character I DON'T like and when they die I jump out and down screaming the praises. Most of the time this is me cheering the death of the villain like say, Truth in Halo 3 or Fontaine in Bioshock. The kind of thing where once they are dead, I am all smiles.
Now that's just me, what characters in gaming were you glad to see die?

(note: this doesn't have to be villains, this can also be protagonists you don't give a shit about)

In Mirror's Edge, I sometimes jumped off buildings just to hear Faith break every bone in her body. I hated EVERY character in that game, and was sorry they weren't all caught and executed (that could make a satisfying sequel, though).
You know the writers have gone horribly wrong when you find yourself cheering for the antagonists.:p

As for enjoying the demise of a villain, I greatly enjoyed watching Johnny Gat taking care of that brat Shogo in Saint's Row 2. That was brutal.
(Come to think of it, SR2 had several truly great villain-killing moments. Jessica's fate was another high point, not to mention the final boss and the end of the "secret" mission. Can't recommend this one highly enough.)

Kreia in KOTOR 2,
I hated getting those jedi masters together just so she could kill them!

Most of the ones I want to see disposed of never seem to die. Some of these low-IQ but very "spunky" and enthusiastic RPG heroes really get on my nerves and really need to be squashed IMO.

I've sort of been waiting for some "I'll try my best", "For love and justice!", guys like Rush from The Last Remnant to come running out to be introduced, only to be immediatly squashed and replaced by a real hero.

Please keep in mind however that the same schtick can be moderatly less annoying when performed by a young girl with the correct atmosphere. Things like "Devil Hunter Yohko"
can still give me a smirk. But still, JRPGs have this tendency to overdo anything. What can be amusing/fun in moderation (say the occasional OVA or 30 minute episode) becomes less so when dropped every minute or two in a 40 hour plus RPG.

I mean seriously, they need to find some middle ground between stupidly young, spunky, and energentic, and wrist-slittingly Emo. It's increasingly rare to see anything that falls into the normal range in RPGs (especially JRPGs) nowadays unless your more or less dealing with a silent protaganist "who is you".

The Fatass Deputey director from Star Ocean 4, his death was awesome. Also Ooka from Enchated Arms I had to fight the bastard about 4 times in a row with one being a solo fight with a chacrter I didn't use that often.

Either of the 2 people who can die at the end of GTA 4. Frankly I was disappointed there were no choices you could make that led to BOTH their deaths in a single playthrough.

That was pretty funny, Gears trying to make us feel sorry for Dom's retarded ass. Dom sucks, people. If you felt your heartstrings tugged by that, you should go play some RPGs and harden up.

Frank Fontaine from Bioshock.

I actually felt joyfull when I killed him. Well, when I watched all the Little Sisters kill him with their syringes.

Seeing Domino from Grim Fandango getting mauled between two spiked rollers had me leaping up and punching the air. Was so glad to see that bastard go down!

God I know. It was so pathetic, the were just like "Shoot, kill, I miss my wife, shoot, kill, wheres that *****, shoot, kill Oh noes shes dead, ...shoot, kill", my reaction was happy. Mainly because I hoped he might finally stop talking about his damn wife.

Probably all the people in Saints Row 2. You feel really great destroying those Bastards, though there were two guys (juyianachi...however you spell his name and the guy who plays for the feed dogs) that I felt a bit dodgy about killing.

Should we hide from the fanboys?
Heh, never been a huge FF fan (despite numerous attempts to play through VII, VIII and X) but Aeris biting the dust is constantly described as "the only time a game has made me cry" etc... But she's such a one dimensional character, as are most of them. Plus she's bloody useless in a fight.

*Awaits backlash.*
