Here's the story,

My little brother and I started playing Minecraft on a LAN over the holidays but since I've gone back to college we can't do that anymore. I know that to play Minecraft's multiplayer I need to set up a server but I don't know much about that process or if its feasible for just two people.

Basically, I'd like to hear about some alternate computer games we could use that are more multiplayer accessible for me and my little bro (he's seven).

Since he's seven it has to be easy and not very violent. So does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this sort of situation?

If anyone has any tips about setting up a server or another way to make MP work in Minecraft that'd be great as well.

I miss my little bro and I want to hang out with him, even if I can't hang out WITH him if that makes sense.

Guess the Saints Row games are out the question then? XD

I've been playing a whole bunch of Risk of Rain, that's got co-op, not particularly violent (its all pixel art) and is hella fun. Its also hard as nails though.

Orcs Must Die 2 is a great laugh, especially in co-op. Lot of Orcs get exploded, stabbed, melted, frozen, ground into a fine paste, etc, but they're Orc's so I figure that's ok.

If your heavily into the building/mining/crafting aspect, Starbound is pretty good fun. It's a lot like Terraria, but setting up a multiplayer game isn't like trying to operate the International Space Station during a meteor shower, and that's always a plus in my book.

Torchlight 2 is also excellent fun in multiplayer, though it can be kinda brutal, though very much in a cartoony way. People and monsters tend to get splatted, but its a great laugh with friends.

Dungeon Defenders might tickle your fancy as well, its kind of a cross between a Diablo/Torchlight kinda game and a tower defense game. 4 (I think) classes, loads of loots, lots of monsters too shoot/chop, no gore to speak of.

Check em out on the Youtube's if you need any more info, and good luck.

Oh, and if you think you can take other people, you could start playing Smite, its a fairly easy Moba type game featuring various gods. Great laugh, though you can't depend on other people to not be douchebags, so you might wanna skip that.
