[HEADING=2]There will be game spoilers, so read at your own risk[/HEADING]

Ok, i got around to playing Indigo Prophecy(or Fahrenheit to others) to see why it has quite the reputation.
At first it started out interesting, one of the main characters(lucas kane) murderers a guy in a trance, and then it switches to the other 2 main characters, carla and tyler, to solve the crime Lucas just committed.
The game even started off with an unique gameplay mechanic where both carla and tyler can each find a different set clues, although it's only used a few times in the entire game.

Now, when the game starts edging into crazy is when giant fleas(termites?dust mites?) attack Lucas, OUT OF NOWHERE. It's just so sudden and so random. Next, is when carla, tyler and police back up arrive to arrest him and then, BAM! Matrix powers. Ok, why the fuck not, David Cage.
Later on Lucas gets killed, and this is where the game goes full speed into insanity ville; apparently he was brought back by AIs(literal AIs) because the AIs and a Mayan Oracle are seeking the Indigo Child, a young girl who possesses a secret that will give great power to whoever hears it.
The Mayan guy and Lucas have a flying matrix fight, because David Cage commanded it so, then Lucas fights the AI, lucas wins, places the indigo child(who i think never said a single word in this game) some glowing thing and the game ends with a monologue.

By the way, Tyler just leaves the game during the last 3rd of the game, Lucas and Carla falls in love just because and Carla ends the game pregnant, even though Lucas is technically dead, but at this point my brain had died.

Goddamn it David Cage.

This game...
EDIT: gonna need 2 gifs for this game

Final fantasy 8 and 9. They both went batshit bonkers near the end. FF8 Arguably went bat shit bonkers near the middle, i'm still not completly sure what the fuck was going on in the game, but i still like it.

Every Final Fantasy game I've played can apply (VII-XIII).

VII goes pretty crazy roundabout when Cloud gets sucked into the Lifestream and all the Weapons pop up around the world, but has small moments of "Wut?" throughout that are difficult to follow either because of the poor translation or just technological limitations at the time (for instance, the Sephiroth that you're following actually being Jenova is... not really well-telegraphed).

VIII starts going insane as soon as Squall gets the ice lance through the chest and only goes further off the deep end as it goes.

IX goes nuts when you go to Terra, and then pulls a III with the "final boss".

X and XIII both are just insane right from the get-go.

XII is... probably the most tame, actually. Maybe because they went for a more political intrigue story rather than religious or fantastic, but the weirdest part of that is probably just the Great Crystal and then the final fight against Vayne.

Also Metal Gear. Kojima is a madman, but that's why I love it so much.

Good times, man. Good times.

I would like to add Final Fantasy Tactics to the list because, even all these years later, I still cannot tell you what is going on, who is who, what is being fought over, and...oh look, there's Cloud. Because why not. Weeeeee!

Assassin's Creed. The first game seemed really interesting: A secret war between Assassins and Templars that has been going on for hundreds of years and is apparently in a critical state where the Templars are threatening to wipe out the Assassins. Knowing that it was also a highly ideological conflict made it all the more interesting. Then...they introduced magical fruit and end-of-world prophecies, and things just went downhill from there. I'll admit, I was somewhat intrigued by the concept early on, but AC2 just took the conspiracy theories and magical items way too far for me to take seriously. By the time the cosmic...things...were introduced, I just couldn't help but crack up about how such a relatively grounded, rather interesting premise that spanned numerous political, philosophical, and religious ideals had turned more into the ramblings of a madman than anything else.

Assassin's Creed 2.

Granted, the series was on shaky ground from the start, what with the ancient templar conspiracy bollocks floating around. But AC2 just went fucking bonkers. I remember seeing the very first "The Truth" glimpse and taking a pretty good guess at where it was headed:

"A naked man and woman. Okay, clearly some kind of Adam and Eve thing. Except they're running through a futuristic looking environment. So... Adam and Eve were from a advanced forerunner civilisation? Except they're naked, and running. Also, they're crazy agile, almost like monke... oh son of a *****, they're gonna do the "aliens kick started humanity from primates" thing, aren't they."

Except then I went and second guessed myself:

"Nah, come on. They wouldn't. So far it's been a decent family revenge story. Uninspired, sure, but basically functional. They wouldn't throw some alien bullshit on top of that, it would be stupid. Have some faith."

Then the rest of the game happened.

"Oh fuck me, they did. Well, there goes that series down the narrative drainpipe."

You know, i would argue, that not understanding everything , put some of the fantasy in older games. But that may just be nostalgia talking.

Everyone, post your spoilers inside spoiler tags since people that come here dont know what games are being spoiled and no one played all games in existence to be safe (it doesnt take that long to make the tags).

I really dont have much more to say and so far no one spoiled anything that most people didnt already know but I thought that this should have been said.

The best example of this would be Metal Gear Solid 2, evidently!

By the time the game ended, I was as confused as the protagonist.

I guess the most recent one for me is Bioshock Infinite. And not the part you're probably thinking of.

Oh hey, this dude is so riddled with alcohol and PTSD that he's going to give his fucking daughter away to repay his "spiritual debt"! Right. I've seen crack heads with more sense than that. It was that part that pulled me right out of the game and kinda spoiled it for me.

As much as I loathed XII, it is by far the most sane. To the extent of being very color-by-numbers. >.<

Thankfully, that whole story line and its progression has taken a serious backseat to "Stab some fuckers in the past". One day I hope it just fades away. No one would notice.

Dragons Dogma goes quite off-course from its apparently basic premise. Though it hints at it in the intro mission. About 10% of the game is after you kill the dragon, for a non-indepth summary.

For some retro gaming. any Might & Magic.

95% classic fantasy RPG. And then, ancient alien space wars and stuff!

Ultima makes for an interesting case in reverse, when it tries to canonize its early installments disregarding the fact that

Early installments of Ultima including spacefighter sections fighting against the big bad's alien allies. Phasers, laser swords, flying hovercraft and such as regular items on the normal world. As well as Ultima 2 being set on Earth and the rest of our Solar System. Not to mention Exodus being an evil AI that you killed with a virus delivered via punch cards

Since the events of those games are included (and even integral to 5 and 6) in later games, it creates some really weird storylines.

Started off with an excellent story and established characters and lore.

You made a career out of doing the possible and through grit and determination you persevered. that's what humans do.

then in he final 15 mins. it all gets thrown out the window from literally deus ex machina.

and we ended up with the biggest WTF WAS THAT. in the history of gaming

[David Cage] But the game isn't about plot! It's about EMOTIONS![/David Cage]

Is it sad that when I saw the title, this is the first thing that came to mind?

Such an interesting concept that turned into such a huge mess, no matter how you look at it.

Bayonetta. The climax is probably my second favorite in video games next to Kingdom Hearts 2. that is also the point at which things go from off the rails to totally off the rails bonkers in a good way.

Actually, from what I remember...

Non-baptism Booker sells her to the Luteces to pay off his gambling debts.

Could be wrong, though. Currently playing it again, so we'll see.

Well star ocean 3: till the end of time (one of the best fucking rpgs in the goddamn history of humanity) when you're near the end of the game, a FUCKING HUGE plot twist happens

You find out that the whole milky way galaxy is a computer program, and you're basically a game for the real people, but somehow humanity managed to break those boundaries so they sent some super strong monsters to destroy the galaxy, and you stop it by killing the master of all that shit. That is the best I can explain because it's simply a mindfuck, people hated that plot twist, but I thought it was fucking genius.
