Have a few questions about game prices.

1. On Steam, why is Mass Effect 1 still $20? The game came out in 2007.

2. Why are Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 largely the same price? On Steam they are both $20. On Amazon, Mass Effect 1 is $15.10 and Mass Effect 2 is $14.02.

3. Why is it suddenly cheaper to buy a physical copy of a game than it is for a digital download? On Amazon Mass Effect 2 digital download is $14.02, a physical copy is $7.93.

Demand, the price will stay high if there is enough demand for it. Why sell it for a lower price if you can get people to buy it for the higher price. More people will pick it up from Steam than they will from Amazon.

Exactly. Mass Effect 1 was pretty cheap about a year ago before ME3 was announced at last year's E3. Once ME3's release date was getting closer, the price of both ME1 and ME2 went up and it has remained there up until today. I give it another year before the price of all ME games goes down. Maybe next year, you'll be able to buy all three for 40 bucks or so. Yep, sounds about right.

Also, I think ME1 and 2 are both around the same price because ME1 is, retail-speaking (?), a 360 exclusive and the origins story. And for some reasons, stores have a shortage of that one so it must be a most-wanted game. I dunno, that's just my guess.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're buying them on Steam, aren't you still buying the digital rights from EA? If so, it allows them to have some say on some price fixing of the product.

Where as the physical copies of the game were already sold to Amazon. EA no longer has any say on the matter and Amazon can charge whatever price for however much stock they have to get rid of.
