My roomie's having a costume birthday party. I'm really bad at figuring out something neat to wear, so I thought I'd come to you guys for some gamer inspiration. I'm a tall girl with shoulder-length brown hair and a slim build. Any ideas?

Given your hair and build, I'd say it was a good idea. But maybe I'm just saying it cause that's what I would like to see. Maybe you should think about your favourite games and try and draw from them, give it a more personal touch.

Grab a towel and go as a hitchhicker. I usually choose minimalist (lazy) costumes like that. Cover yourself in unwashed plates and cutlery and be a student kitchen. Or get some leathers and be hit-girl or an x-man.
I'd almost recommend Tifa from FF7, though that's become such a cosplay cliche that you'd want to avoid it.
