I found this [a href=http://www.livescience.com/culture/090731-video-games.html]article[/a] earlier, and I was wondering what other gamer's opinions on it are. Basically the article is saying that most people who play games keep playing them. It talks a good bit about video game addiction.

That article baffled me. Throughout the article you could replace 'video gamer' with 'reader'. People who read usually continue to do so. The book industry has proven that it is 'turnover-proof' much better than the video game industry.

Well, yes I will game for my life. But comparing reading and gaming hardly works. Everyone reads. Even being on this site means your reading something.

Yawn. I can see myself giving up video games once I'm older, especially if I move towards my ambition of running my own CPA firm. Why play Capitalism II when you can engage in real capitalism?

With anything, if you enjoy it, chances are you'll continue enjoying it for a while.

Video game addiction? Well, by that logic, then people who watch movies often have a movie addiction, people who read a lot have a book addiction, and so on.

Gaming is a hobby. Everyone has one, and doesn't enjoy giving it up.

Personally, I can see gaming being something that I do for a fair portion of my life. I take short-ish breaks from it now and then but that's usually because work keeps me busy. It's not a hobby that I've ever outright abandoned for any length of time. I've been gaming for the past couple of decades and I don't doubt that I'll continue to do so.

Videogames are the current devil, just as rock and roll used to be. It's amusing when you consider that a lot of gamers are probably fundamentally more sociable than heavy readers, though I make that statement in an intentionally general fashion.

I will probably stay a gamer for as long as I still have the ability to not get killed on a regular basis.

But I am not and will likely never be addicted. I know my priorities.

Its just a fun pastime for me. Nothing else.

I'd like to picture myself still being able to hold a controller when I'm an old man. Gaming has always bin a big part of my life and a big social thing for all my friends getting together and relaxing and all that. Of course, in the furture work, lovelife, future kids will always come first, but I hope I don't have to give it up. Atleast not with my current state of mind.

I dream for the day my grand children scream at me to get off of teh virtual reality console and stop playing COD:756 America Vs Germany, (though shouldnt that really be MOH? they are full of american patriotism my eyes bleed) so they can play, and ill rant on about how "the graphics were better in my day" or "back in my day we had proper levels designed by proffesionals" or "games werent released to make a profit, but to show a concept or idea in my day" or someother bullshit like that.
