I'm not so hot on that idea because look what has happened to various different adaptions (Resident Evil, Doom, etc.)

Max Payne! heh

It would take some serious rewrites, but I think the main quest story from Oblivion would make a good fantasy movie.

Most games are games for a reason. I'm one of the "gamez r art" dipshits, so I recognize the subtle beauty and artistry within a game. Now, while gameplay is still the most important facet of any game, story is always there, more prominent in some games than in others. Sometimes gameplay is sacrificed to make way for the story, and while that is utter bullshit, some games can perfectly pull off a combination of story and gameplay. Such that you are motivated to play for more than one reason: you want to feel proud of your accomplishments and you want to further the story.

Movies are completely different. A movie by definition is comprised of a story and acting. So really the only component that is present in a conjunction of movies and games is story. Therefore, story must be prominent in the game of choice for a movie to be made successfully. Of course many movies have been made that follow the plot of the games faithfully, but in reality, suitable candidates for a game-based movie are few and far between.

tl;dr: Games do not necessarily translate to movies.

But disregarding all of that, a Half-Life movie would be awesome.

Honestly I think some games would make amazing films, problem is those games are good because of the fact that you have time to take in each moment, whereas generally a film needs to be all sandwiched in as tight as possible. I'll put it this way, can you clear Dead Space in under two hours?

What about Fallout? I could see a really good movie coming out of that, I mean you could do a rediculous amount with all the material which is already there from the game. But unfortunately, I've learned through experience to not get my hopes up about any game->movie, like Doom, most of the Resident Evil movies (I admit I kind of enjoyed 1, but after that it just got rediculously cheesy) etc... one dissapointment after another :(

Man, just as long as the movie isn't directed by Uwe Boll, I think we can all agree they could take a game like DOA and make it into a movie, and it'd be alright.

Wait a minute... [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398913/]

Long story short: video games are one-hundred times better at telling those sorts of stories than movies are, and trying to cross media platforms only brings failure. Of the epic variety.

Phoenix Wright needs an Anime, an OVA, or a Movie series.
Pheonix Wright, in and of itself, is an interactive graphic novel.

The only gameplay is deciding when to say stuff and searching through evidence for things to present.

That's why you couldn't possibly fuck it up!
We could get Uwe Boll to direct it so that he could add a subplot about an alien invasion.

"I must put these people on trial for conspiring with the aliens!"

I think there are already to many movie games, and the more games you make 2 movies, the worse they will be.
Wait, there was something wrong with that sentence.

Mirror's Edge would be cool, the game's story is short enough that it might fit well into a one and a half or two hour movie.

I agree with you on that. It wouldn't be one that i would want to make into a movie but it would fit well. Chances are it would still be really corny and you just know that the woman in it would end up with some kind of super powers and will suddenly develop the power to make grown men into cheese or something equally stupid.

I don't think any games should be mad into movies or even put on to televison but if they did have to put things to screen then those high budget TV miniseries would be best. Something like Fallout done in a Band of Brothers style format might work. Might...

Thank you all for your input and i must say there are some very good points in there like the fact that games do have more time for the story where a movie cant fill in all the blanks just look at The lord of the rings the movies where and are mad but still missed a lot as will always happen, at some point we just have to say "not as good as the game but never was going to be".

If someone releases a movie based on Half-life 2. (The Main Character being Alyx, because silent characters are soooooo 1930) Then the world would explode from awesomeness
