Hello fellow escapists! I want to know why most guys create a female to play as in most RPGs like Dragon's Dogma,Skyrim,D&D,Diablo and so on. I don't mind if you play as a female I don't understand why that's all. If you like to play as a female character in games let me know why.

Because I already have a male character and want to roll a female for different jokes, dances and looks.

For me, there are a few different factors coming when choosing gender.

Firstly, I look if different genders have any different attributes or skills. If that's the case I decide which gender's abilities will benefit my play style the most.

Secondly, I think about looks (obviously). Some games have very badly animated or modeled males/females which brake or diminish my immersion. I tend to gravitate to females for the eye candy tho.

A big reason for picking one gender over the other (at least in MMOs) is other people's behavior towards females. Playing a female, most of the time, results in harassment even if you state that you are a dude. On the other hand, some more sneaky people can use that to their advantage, pretending to be frail and noob-ish in result gaining items, help and other benefits.

Personally, most of the time I pick a gender whichever I feel like playing at the time.

On a side note: I think this belongs in the gaming discussion forum.

Riiiiiight...

The few guys who play females I've talked to said it was because they'd rather be constantly looking at a woman's ass than a man's ass.

I usually play as a female in my second playthrough, because I want a different experience than my first playthrough where I played as a guy. The only exception to date is Saint's Row 2 and 3 (which aren't RPGs, I know), where I have only played as female. I tried making a male in SR2 but it looked crap and I didn't like any of the voices, so I switched over to female.

That response always makes me laugh, and wonder if they are forced to play a dude can they not draw their gaze away from man-butt? Damn hypnotic man-butt!

Don't ask me what their deal is. I roll male characters. (I tried to make a female character based on a girl from a book once in Oblivion, but I never got around to playing much with her)

Running around in third person, you do have to look at your character to keep track of where you're going though. I just don't find a male character annoying so much as neutral.
And I sort of doubt I'd find a female avatar significantly more pleasing to look at while I'm playing the game.

If I am to admire an ass, it's the small details that make it enjoyable, and games just aren't realistic enough (nor zoomed in enough) to make playing a female character a more visually pleasing experience.

Any proof of that claim? And if you ask me, then my answer is "Why not?". I play all sorts of characters - both male and female, I don't see why I shouldn't use different genders for them since I have the option. I mean, it says "Choose your character's gender" not "What gender are you, so we adjust the PC accordingly", right? So the option isn't tied to me, it's just there, why not use it. It's no different than choosing eye colour or hair style or whatever. So I'll play both male and female characters, the same way I'll play ones with blond hair and ones with brown hair or whatever.

Well, but in PnP RPGs, I tend to make male characters. I would just feel stupid if I tried to do a woman's voice, that's why.

It depends on which design I think looks better. If the male is shaped like a shit brickhouse, I gravitate towards the female. If the female design is overly sexualised I tend to pick the male. In situations where it's one or the other I just pick whichever one I dislike less.

If I'm going to be watching someone from behind who's walking everywhere I might as well enjoy it.

I won't lie, ME1 light armor Shepard-butt was hard not to look at whether male or female. That silly little jog just bounced that thing in front of you the whole game. Mmmmm... juicy femshep booty.....

I find it helps me "roll play" more.

If I play a male in a game like Skyrim, I automatically limit myself because I can't help but make the choices I would make. I'm playing myself, in a way. By rolling a female character I can kinda detach myself and make good/bad/greedy/generous decisions regardless of how I am in the real.

Not the best explanation but I hope everyone gets what I'm saying.
As far as PnP rpgs go, this is an important point, it allows a level of detachment from the character, so it doesn't just end up as me. EDIT: Also "role play". "roll playing" is generally used as a term to describe people who just use the dice and rules without really bothering with a character.

Computer RPGs, especially if 3rd person it's because I think women look nice. All other things being equal I will generally choose the thing that is most aesthtically pleasing to me, whether it is a car in racing games or a woman in a 3rd person RPG. I'll probably not even notice it in game while I'm playing but at the character select screen that's what I'll use to make my choice. Secondly, on the detachment point again it means I'm less likely to rage when I get killed, as the character isn't me I don't take it so personally.

Here i will put this in the least crude way possible. Females look better, and this can mean anything from it's mind in the gutter meaning of purely sexual to the simple statement females look better.

This is by the way coming from a male with no female charters.

Actually I just created a female character in Old Republic. Its fun in watching something in a different perspective. Not sure how it is in other MMORPGs where sex doesn't as much matter.

Because i like females?
Let me see... i have a female main character in the following games:

Fallout 3
Oblivion
WoW
Eve
Mass Effect
VTM: Bloodlines

Yep, that is definitely some kind of queer bias of mine.
