Now, I know that the games as art debate has basically been done to death by this point. Nevertheless, I want to know, Escapists, how do you rate Bastion?

In my opinion, Bastion is a game that can very easily be called art. It's amalgamation of beautiful artwork, graphics, music and the narrative that drives it (and that oh so seductive narrator's voice) all work for it to create a singularly unique experience.

So, thoughts?

Games as art?

Shit. I think every game is art, from Bastion to Angry Birds.

If a guy peeing in a jar is art, why the hell aren't games? Someone worked to create those damn pixelated pigs you crush with physics!

Gentlemen, this is not the place for that debate, and anyone who says anything like '/thread' is being an obnoxious ass.

As the OP said, this about Bastion in particular as an example. I would say it is an exemplary one. The art style, music, and narrative style are all very unique and beautiful. I am actually listening to the soundtrack as we speak.

Parts of the game were so affecting that I teared up, that makes it art by my definition.

The whole "is X art?" debate will always be crushed by the fact that pretty much everything can be considered art.
Personally, I'd take it one step further, and say literally everything can be considered art. Especially since there's no real, standard definition of art anyway.

I'd say Bastion is a "good" game. Arguing about whether or not it's art is pointless, because that word means something different to everyone who says it.
