(to begin with, apologies if this is in the wrong section)

Theres somthing I've noticed recently, that in retrospect seems fairly obvious, in the difference in how video games are portraied within the news media on both sides of the pond. Most of us should have a good idea of how it is in the US and anything I say would be repeating most other people, but within the UK the news media acts almost as if they don't exsist, with only the local news segements (atleast on the BBC's part) only ever mentioning when an average flash game is developed in conjunction with a town or events advertising and even then its a small blip compared to the rest of the report, I also usually see the UK goverments spending plans in regard to the industry on the Escapist's news feed before the BBC manages to pump out a painfully vauge on short article on the matter.
Unless theres somthing that I'm missing (which wouldn't surprise me honestly), why is it that these two examples of news treat the video game medium so differantly? I'd love to hear what everyone on this site thinks

I've never ventured out of the US, so I have no clue how games are thought of in UK.

In America, it's only mentioned when it reached really high sales, is very contreversial, or won some sort of prize.

There are other mentionings: i.e., it was found in the household of a serial murderer or the now famous Supreme Court case, y'know.

In the UK it is very rare I see anything game related on the tv tubes. I don't watch them much anyway, so it might just be that I'm watching the wrong things (I only really watch Poirot, New Tricks and the occasional documentary).
