This thread came about largely due to the masses of Valve fanboyism on this very forum.
After seeing all the hundreds of troll posts in the many recent Halo threads proclaiming how awesome Half Life 2 was and how we should be ashamed for liking anything that isn't Half Life 2, I began to lose patience. I didn't want to hear about how awesome Half Life 2 was, I wanted to have a perfectly civil discussion about Halo. Over time, this just built up - until I suddenly realised recently that I am really beginning to absolutely despise Half Life 2. I've never played it, and know near-on nothing about it except that it involves scientists with crowbars, but that doesn't seem to matter. It's the fact that it seemingly turns everyone who likes it and is vocal into complete jerkmuffins who aren't content until they're assured that every single person in the universe knows how HL2 is a god-like, deep shooter with a magnificent story on the level of the finest human literature, with perfectly developed characters and incredibly fantastic gameplay. Of course, I know deep down that the vast majority of HL2 fans are probably perfectly reasonable in every way, really, but it doesn't matter. I still find myself loathing Half Life 2 on principle.
And having seen such massive huge love extended onto some of Valve's other games (like TF2) in much the same manner by certain people, I find myself beginning to dislike the whole of Valve and all its games. Which I know isn't good at all. (As an aside, my copy of Half Life 2 - which I received as a present - doesn't like the way I plug my Xbox 360 into a computer monitor instead of a TV to play, so it doesn't work. I have this problem with a lot of original Xbox games, it's irritating as I can't find out for myself whether the game is any good or not.)
Anyway, my point is: Have any of you guys had similar experiences with certain games or developers? It doesn't have to be for the same reason as me to qualify - you could hate them on a completely different principle. And by the way, no posting about your hatred of a particular game due to playing it extensively and deciding you don't like a particular aspect of it (e.g gameplay or story), that's not what this is about.
