Games (or game franchises) that you hate on because of their popularity...

The topic is pretty self explanatory so i'll start: The Legend of Zelda series. In all seriousness there are maybe 2 games out of this series that I like. My hate for the series overall comes from rabid fanboyism I see from people not to mention that Majora's Mask was voted game of the decade at GameFAQs. Ugh...

None. I find the very concept of hating something just because it's popular to be extraordinarily shallow and idiotic.

I can imagine the hate that could spawn from this thread. Oh well.

Do game companies count? Because I refuse to play Bioware games.

I don't HATE games because of popularity. It can cause dislike if the venue of accessing is of the public nature, but other than that, no.

As for Game companies, I have a love/hate relationship with EA. DICE and Bioware=yes. Everything else about EA=No.

I can't say I ever hate anything because it's popular. Doing so is kind of...douchey.
But if I did, I'm sure I could dig deeper and find a better reason to hate them. You can always find a reason to hate something if you put your mind to it.

I guess so, Bioware is pretty popular. Although may I ask why that is? My sleepy curiosity wants to know. :p

OT: I used to hate on Portal, mainly because when I joined here, I was pretty much given a crash course in Cake memes and the fans were very rabid. Very. Although, that said, playing Portal 2 co-op has lessened that hate a lot for me lately. >>

Also, if I don't see at least 3 CoD/Halo answers on the first page, I'll eat my hat. XD

Minecraft ugh...

The game itself is good, but good god its fanbase and treating it like its pure perfection and everything else is inferior. Not to mention treating Notch like a god and like he can't do anything wrong.

Most other indie games as well. I hate how indie fans are trying to create this war against the popular mainstream games.

QFT. No matter how popular a game franchise is, it is silly to hate it just because of its popularity alone. I really do not understand why people do such a thing.

I refuse to play Ubisoft games. Although thats more because of their anti-consumer DRM, which they apparently dropped. Kind of. So that doesn't really fit the thread...

Hm... don't think I've ever hated something because of its popularity. Although everyone talking about something gets really annoying, and sets high-expectations for it which wind up disappointing me. But nothing causing me to hate anything.

Does this still apply if I spam the first page? I want a video of you eating that hat. And then (about 12 hours later) an opinion piece on the merits of eating one's headwear.

Why would I hate something because it's popular? Granted, there can be some negative side-effects due to popularity (and I'll feel free to hate those), but the overall concept smacks of elitism. I'd be thrilled to see the things I like be more popular.

Popularity doesn't really effect it, its more of the way the fanbase treats your views. For example, I dont like minecraft or the MLP crazes. However, every time i disagree I get jumped for it.... THAT turns you off of something. Its not that its popular, but rather a "wow, I dont want to be like the people attacking me" kind of feeling.

It's not as much because they're popular, now that I think about it. I refuse to play Dragon Age because I dislike Western style RPGs and despise anything even remotely resembling Tolkien (as I explained in a different thread).

I refuse to play Mass Effect because of everyone I know being all "Dude, dude, dude, dude, dude, dude, you have to play this."

I'm not a big enough fan of Star Wars to want to play KoTOR.

No, it would not count.
Although I think I am going to have to eat a hat...no one has mentioned them yet. I won't be able to provide a video as I have nothing that can record that sort of thing but I can certainly make a thread about eating it.

Who knows? It could be either amusing or enlightening.
Or a testament to how bored I might be tomorrow, one or the other.

None, but that's really because I'm not a hipster. There are plenty of popular things that I DO hate, but none of them because they are popular.
