I'm just curious. What games have you guys played as kids and thought they were so hard that you stopped playing only to pick them up years later and say "I can't believe I ever thought this was difficult"?

Dark Souls. I asked for a difficult game. I didn't get one, but what I did get is an awesome experience that I highly recommend that everyone try at least. I swear, it's more unforgiving than hard officer!

I remember the first game I regarded as too difficult - Half-Life. For some reason me and my friends thought you simply cannot finish it without cheats. Which I later did many times even on Hard. I'm not sure why we thought that in the first place, though as you do start with low ammo but after a while you shouldn't run out. And health is rarely an issue unless you do get stuck somewhere with, like 5 HP and no armour - even though you can still survive, you can also just reload an earlier save.

I'm quite shamed to say that I once found the Normal mode in the first God of War pretty hard, and had to finish the game on Easy.

That was untill I bought the HD Collection, and playing it again after years I discovered I could simply juggle most enemies with Apollo's Ascension.

Also, the Trails of Archimedes in GoW: Ascension almost caused me to throw the nearest heavy object through my TV, untill I realized I simply had to use my back-up items (which are easy to forget) and breezed right through it.

Rocket Knight Adventures.

When I was a kid, I could only get up to the space level before I'd die against it's boss. Last year I beat the game with 20+ lives on hard difficulty...

There are a couple of games which kicked my ass as a kid, but found fairly easy in later years.

Commander Keen: Episode 1

Did you know you can kill Vorticons with the ray gun? I sure as hell didn't! God that would have made it easier.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force

When I was a kid I simply couldn't beat the final boss, despite my many attempts. I almost suspect he was made easier by an update I must've downloaded when I reinstalled it a little while back. I can hardly believe I found that so challenging.

Evil Islands (game I doubt anyone here has ever heard of)

When I realized that actually taking party members with you is the best way to gimp yourself, since you eventually have to leave them behind and get new ones. All they do is steal your experience.

Warcraft III

I found the campaign very challenging when it first came out, but when I replayed it, I breezed through it easily.
