Theres always that game you see thats a personal holy grail. Its ever changing and consistently delayed deadline makes you crave it more than anything materially existent.

Then there are moments when you are shown small pieces of it to ensure your curiousty for the game is sealed. Eventually when it does come out and you play it...it fails.

I mean the game doesnt come anywhere near your expectations and that feeling of disapointment arises. For me several examples include FEAR 2 but the culprit in mention for me is Homefront, specifically the single-player. The hype and publicity compared to the unoriginal gameplay compiled with the short single-player campaign killed any feeling of excitement i had for the game off completely. The multiplayer was good, however it wasnt revolutionary enough to make me forget the shab singleplayer.

So my topic in general is which games did you have high expecations for and did they fulfill them or fail them?

FEAR 2, GH: Warriors of Rock, and Section 8 did this to me. The only game that had any redeeming qualities was FEAR 2, because I liked the way the mech operated.

Fable - I was expecting something more akin to Morrowind then Zelda. It was an alright game just not what I was expecting / promised.

Alien vs Predator (2010) - It's not a bad game but its certainly not as good as the older two. I was most disappointed by the Alien levels where you have to manually activate the vent shaft to use it instead of being able to seamlessly move around the levels like the first two for pc.

Deus Ex: Invisible War - The original was one of my all time favorite games, realistically there was no way for this to live up to it.

Red Faction II - I loved the first one to death and Guerrilla was pretty decent but my god they took everything great from the first game and butchered it in the 2nd one.

Daikatana - Do I really need to explain about this one? I was one of the suckers that got it on day 1 hoping for an epic game.

Perfect Dark Zero - An absolute train wreck of a prequel.

Sin Episodes: Emergence - Sin is another one of my favorite FPS games and the fact this went nowhere and was Episodic made me real sad.

Halo 2 / 3 - I enjoyed the hell out of the first halo but 2 and 3 just seem really uninspired and boring to the point that I completely skipped over Halo Wars, ODST and Reach and don't really regret it.

GTA IV (PC) - I have the 360 version and tinkered with the PC version a little bit. Horrible optimization and forcing the use of Games For Windows Live on steam was a gigantic turn off for me.

Alright, enough with the downers, lets get into those ones that did amaze me.

American Mcgee's Alice - Solid gameplay, unique twist on the classic story, and a wonderfully warped and detailed world for its time.

AvP (1999) / AVP 2 (2001) - Both these games captured the magic of the comics and brought them into an interactive media and did so many things right that it far outweighed any flaws.

Saint's Row 2 - Pure blissful chaotic open sandbox fun. This game completely threw me off because I wasn't fond of the original.

Portal - No need to explain this one.

Chronicles of Riddick - I expected absolute rubbish, tossed it into my xbox played it and absolutely fell in love with it. Just an overall ass kicking game.

there are so many more but I feel this is long enough...
