I'm pretty sure we had a thread with was the opposite of this, but oddly enough this wasn't the inspiration for it.

The inspiration came from when I was playing the Sonic Adventure 2 re-release on my Xbox, and I was back in the Chao garden again after so long not being able to (due to my Dreamcast dying and the Gamecube refusing to read Sonic Adventure 2 Battle after a while). And I said to myself what a wonderful world "How could anyone hate this?"

I mean, no matter your views on anything else in the game, how could you hate these adorable little bastards?

So is the any game, whether due to a moment in it, the game as a whole, whatever, that just makes you think, how could anyone hate this?

Persona 4. Now I have yet to find someone who has said the literal words "I hate Persona 4" so that's a good sign but I can tell that those people who dislike JRPGs are silently judging. I had no love for JRPGs either, I was pretty neutral on the whole thing. I wasn't gonna have a fit over FF VIII-5 The Revengance being released nor was I going to go on about FF7 being baist thing evar.

Basically the long and short of it is that Persona 4 transcends genre as far as i'm concerned. It's just that good.

I mean just listen to this:

TOO GOOD!

Maybe the Ace Attorney series qualifies... Depends on how boring you are I suppose.

"Nyyyyehhh real lawyers don't shout and point fingers! That's not the correct use of the word Objection! Why does Phoneix get bitched at for doing his job? Not finding anything in a Cross-Examination can't pin blame on the Defence personally! WHY IS THERE SO MUCH PHYSICAL ABUSE IN THE COURTROOM! THIS IS RUINING MY IMMURSION IN THIS SUPAH SRS GAEM!"

Assassin's Creed 2

Don't get me wrong the game has faults, but whenever I feel just the slightest twinge of frustration with it all I have to do is climb up the nearest tall building, look around and think 'Damn, this game is pretty...'.

and in 3 years that has never got old. I think it has something to do with knowing it's not just a sky box. Not only are the aesthetics so beautiful, you can explore every inch of the terrain.

I don't see how anyone could hate Homeworld.

The music, and the story, were so good.

inb4 Half-Life 2?
Fanboy-clichés aside, I really do think HL2 is "perfect". It's clearly not, but it does everything right that it sets out to do. I always say it's The Lion King of video games. TLK and HL2 may not be the best in their medium or even their genre, funner and more impressive examples have come out since then, but damn do they hit all the right notes.

Also, nobody can hate Trine 2. Yeah, maybe the puzzles are too easy or too dumb and maybe you don't like platformers and maybe you even hate fantasy, but... there is no prettier game. More epic, more graphically impressive (show me, and no it's not Crysis lol), maybe more realistic (bleh) or whatever else - but not prettier.

I like you.
Especially agreed on the exploration bit. Love those games where you can point to a spot in the distance and then just walk there. Or freerun. Or horseride. Or parachute.
Games need to do that more. It's one of those things games uniquely excel at.

Just Cause 2.

Sure, there are no interesting characters and the story is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, but the fact that you can attach a car to a helicopter, take off, and destroy a water tower with the car/wrecking ball makes up for it in my opinion.

Then again, I'm extremely easy to entertain so maybe I'm horribly wrong.

Black Mesa. It's free, it's preeeeeetty, it's sizable, and true to the Half-Life games.

Then I get one-shotted by a soldier and remember why you can hate the game.

Mirrors Edge.

How that game didn't sell more copies is really beyond me. Beautiful game, challenging and fun to play, unique, decent story, great soundtrack etc etc.

It sucks because we'll probably never see a sequel.

P4 sure was fantastic. P4 brought me back to the JRPG genre, and motivated me to explore the visual novel genre. I was once again made a believer in story and character development in video games. P4's cast is just so great.

And the soundtrack, the soundtrack is stupid catchy. I can never get some of these tracks out of my head, been trying for months now. But I give up. I don't mind mentally humming out Heartbeat Heartbreak or Reach Out to the Truth occasionally everyday. I agree, it's just too good.

Parachute jumping saved Brotherhood and Revelations for me, especially Galata tower in Revelations, gets sooo high up that the wind starts whistling around you, it's awesome.

That's why I like playing with the HUD completely off, it's frustrating at times, but climbing up to the nearest rooftop and navigating by landmarks made getting around so much more.

And seeing Venice for the first time is not something that will leave me.

Poor production, muddy, dull and in dire need of people who are higher calibre singers than those you'd see at your average karaoke night. The whiny nasal verses are the worst of all, yuck.

Sorry, but it's bad from a technical and artistic standpoint in my honest opinion.

I don't get how anybody can hate a game purely because a vocal minority of the fanbase are irritating. The only thing that should matter is whether or not the game itself is good or not.

Pretty much all Valve games can fit under this, as most of the time people do not criticise the games, but the obnoxious fanboys (and they can be very obnoxious). But it shouldn't matter, because it doesn't affect how good the game is.

Generally speaking though, my response is the same to the opposite version of this thread:

That people have different tastes, so it doesn't really matter if people like different things. Unless the reasons make no sense, then it's not really an issue.

You brought it up so I'm bringing the heat. 'Deep breath'

Dragon age 2. Yup I said it and I won't take it back. Main story small scale is good big scale bad, every area looking the same also bad, making Anders not as funny as in Awakening also pretty terrible, only one origin pure crappage (made that up), restricting you to human only JUST FUCKING NO!

But what about better gameplay, kickass characters, great character development, better affection system, that smexiness that is the rouge DLC hat Jasmine Cutty's Wrap (seriously that is the sexiest hat I have ever seen and I don't know why), main character can not only talk but can have entirely different tone of voice for the same lines, Merrill again, everybody is bisexual except Sebastian but he just marries girls he doesn't have sex with them fucking chaste tease, Merrill, Varric, and goddamit she's the best character in Dragon age Merrill (at least in the second one she's meh in the first). All of that. Yes. HELL YES! HELL FUCKING YES! I LOVE MERRILL YES! HOW DO PEOPLE HATE THIS GAME!? HOW!?

Captcha: "It's Super Delicious" Obviously Captcha loves Merrill why doesn't everyone.

I'll sort of agree, there are a lot of reasons to hate DA2 but I still liked it a lot, when you look through all the flaws it's a pretty decent game, and the characters are also pretty good.

And I love me some Merrill.

Kingdom Hearts.

I honestly can see no faults in this series of games. (I will admit, I may be biased.) Or at the very least, no fault major enough to turn someone off of them. Something many people mention is the plot, and how convoluted it is. But... I've never felt it was that difficult to put together at all.

I didn't mind it to be honest. The only thing that pissed me off was...no...DUAL WIELDING WARRIOR! *Rage mode activated* RWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Okay I'm done about that.

Damn ninja. I agree with this 100% love that game....would get golden but my portable console budget was spend on the 3DS. :(

Guess I'll wait for Persona 5 then. x_x

Oh, my idea now!

The Jak and Daxter series.

Sure the first one may of been a unique adventure game by itself.
But heck, the following two games were so much fun that I bought the HD collection.

Who doesn't like these two!?

*SPOILERS!*

My epitome of video game meaning. Fun meter into overdrive, skill meter into hyperdrive and destruction into FTL drive. I can't find faults except for the menus but who fucking cares !

TAKEDOWNS GALORE ! WHOOOOOOO !
