What game do you wish had become a classic? For me it has to be Destroy All Humans. It looked pretty good. It had awesome powers, weapons and humor. I still replay it once in a while. Also Metal Arms: Glitch in the System.

I don't think anything can be put into this category because, as Paul Stanley once said: things become classics for a reason. It's because they're better than the others.

There are tons of good games that people just don't buy...

Metal Arms! I loved that game, still play it from time to time. So much shooty-pew-pew-robot action, and the gameplay and graphics were great! Storyline sucked though, but I guess it wasn't made to tell an epic tale of love and loss...

Are you talking about which unknown games that only we've played should have become cult classics, or which cult classics deserved to become widely appreciated classics?

A good example of the former is the 2-game Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga series for PS2. Arguably better than Nocturne/Lucifer's Call, the games had an excellent character-driven plot and and improved combat system. The first game ended on a massive cliffhanger, but was still a complete game in its own right rather than leaving you feeling like you only paid for half a game, while the second game played mostly the same, but with enough new changes and features that you didn't feel like you were just playing the same game rehashed. The two games were mostly overlooked by RPG fans and completely forgotten when the Persona games arrived.

A good example of the latter is ICO. Critically raved about and widely hailed as one of the best games ever to not sell well, it's honestly better than almost ever other really big-name game you can name from the last 5 years, in any genre. It's one of the most perfect games I've ever played- not even Shadow of the Colossus was so utterly polished. It should by all rights be near the top of most all-time best game lists, not simply restricted to "most unappreciated" lists.

Jade empire

People will rant on and on about Bioware games like KOTOR and Mass Effect until the cows come home and I didn't really like either of them, yet where's all the bioware fan love for Jade Empire, definitely one of the most original games I have ever played.

All I can think of right now are the first two Gothics (yes, some of you might start thinking I sound like a broken record). I think they are already considered cult classics, but they should receive way more attention, then maybe we would see more virtual worlds as perfectly balanced as those.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2. Overshadowed by Smash Bros. by so much, but it can be quite fun playing with friends.

In modern day: Mass Effect 2

Of the recent past: Shadow of the Colossus

From a while ago: Super Mario World (not sure if it counts as a classic in today's gaming culture)

Evil Genius

War of the Monsters

Go and Youtube both
I'm going to look up War of the Monsters, because Evil Genius is brilliant. Way better than its famous cousin, Dungeon Keeper...
