Alright, so simply post what games you have enjoyed this year or last year that got low to mediocre review scroes. (It doesn't matter when you played it, put it in the Last Year or This year depending on what year the game was released.)

For me --
Last Year Games ---
-White Knight Chronicles
-MAG
-Lost Planet 2
-Kane and Lynch 2
-Alpha Protocol
-Gothic 4

This Year ---
-Two Worlds 2 (? - US and EU reviews are quite different so...)

Thats it, I haven't gotten many games this year that actually released this year.

Now post your games in the same format. :)

Alpha Protocol takes the cake. I'm so glad I decided to go with my gut on that purchase, rather than listen to the professional reviews which were, in my opinion, quite off target.

Oh, without a doubt, Deadly Premonition. I believe it got a 68 metascore, but it is one of my favorite games. I highly suggest everyone picking it up. It's so damn cheap too.

Alpha Protcol - I'm actually shocked by the reviews for this, it really deserved better because it's a DAMN GOOD GAME. I honestly don't get the majority of issues people have with it.

Deadly Premonition - This is slightly different as I can see exactly why people didn't like it. The way I see it though it that you can't make a game with such an emphasis on bad design without intending it. It's like the developer set out to make a game with 'So bad it's awesome' as their original design philosophy and I expect a lot of people don't see it the same way as me.

edit: That was one hell of a ninjaing... =D

What he said.

That game spoiled Bethesda/Bioware games for me. After playing a game that actually shapes itself based on your choices, I realized how little your choices really matter in Bioware/Bethesda games.

Heh. I played both ME games after AP and enjoyed them more.

Probably because the gameplay was at least competent.

But, yeah, AP. Awesome game with terrible gameplay, never expected to say that in my gaming life.

Who's up for creating a Steven Heck fanclub?

Alpha Protocol and White Knight Chronicles are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

NieR: Not without it's faults, but for 29,95, damn enjoyable.

EDIT: holy crap, ninja'd, first time in my life!

Resonance of Fate got 72/74 on Metacritic for the PS3/360 respectively, but it's still an awesome strategic RPG.

Of course, it's like this with a lot of JRPGs. Whenever one's released, everyone bitches and moans about linearity and cutscenes, but when Quantic Dream does the exact same thing they start bending over backwards just to suck them off.

easily Alpha protocol, i'd be gutsy enough to say its in my top ten games of all time now, i love it!

but two worlds II i would also add in there, i've dabbled with it at a friends and i love it so far, and i'm planning to get it soon once i get paid.

i played the first lost planet but just didn't have spare cash to get the second one, i'm sure it was just as fun as the first one, which i highly enjoyed with friends.

That's because over half of the people saying graphics don't matter to them are full of shit partly. However, I think the biggest part is Alpha Protocol is a meme. Like RDR. I have played over 200 hours of RDR now... maybe even 300 by now and have yet to experience a single glitch. Not even 1. But online people will call it a glitch riddled pile of junk. Alpha Protocol while it does have the glitches, has some really awesome mechanics in play and the glitches are ignorable. It seems even online with anonymity, people still want to "fit in" with the majority.

I only encountered one single glitch, maybe occurring at most 3 or 4 times over 5 playthroughs. Other people have obviously had worse experiences than me but yeah, it definitely isn't the bug ridden mess that people made it out to be. Hell, I don't even think it looks bad graphically and most issues regarding gameplay seem to be people complaining that it isn't what they expected it to be, not that it's actually poor.

Commander: Conquest of the Americas got a 68 Metascore. Patrician IV got a 66 (and, to be fair, it deserved it---that was a major "hardcore genre fans will like this, but everyone else is gonna think it sucks" game if ever there was one. Unless you're a DIEHARD simulation gamer you're not gonna like it.)

Everyone hated Final Fantasy 13. I started playing it last week and I fail to see why.

One of the reasons I still hesitate to pick up Alpha Protocol is that I've seen the animation for Agent Thornton's "Stealth Walk," and it's pretty embarrassing to watch. I know that's very petty, but I love the stealthy sniper approach to taking on enemy forces (Infiltrator Shepard, anyone?), and there simply isn't any dignity to that movement. Granted, the more I hear about how underrated the game is, I care less and less. Here's to hoping it plays well on the PS3.

As for Deadly Premonition, I've been damned curious about that game ever since I saw Spoony's Let's Play of it. Judging from that first hour of gameplay, it seems like that kind of surreal experience that will only ramp up to eleven in sheer whacked-out silly-horrifying fuckness as the game proceeds. This intrigues me. By the way, would you mind answering me this?
Is Zach the player? If he isn't, don't tell me who he is, please, but the game really seems to point to the player being this Zach person to whom York constantly speaks.

EDIT:

Replaced "here" with "hear." I weep inside knowing I made that mistake.

I liked Dante's Inferno. Most people thought it was a lame GOW ripoff, but honestly I'm enjoying it more than I ever liked GOW. Oh yeah, Deadly Premonition is awesome on so many levels it's a crime if you don't play it.

I don't get that complaint either. I thought it looked pretty silly, so I tried it out myself. It seemed to be the best way to keep a low profile whilst moving quickly. Also, I was watching a Metal Gear Solid 4 Let's Play and I swear, Old Snake does the exact same thing. If it's good enough for Snake, it's good enough for me.

I'm not hugely far into the game so I don't actually know the answer. That is definitely the impression I've been getting though. It's quite humorous when you share the name, really brings you into the experience more.
