But what makes me want to have it more is the fact that it is free. So i am asking you whats a cheap game you got that didnt come from Steam.

I think I may win here for paying at a retailer. Not just that, but it's a gem of a game.

I was in a local game shop a few years back with my dad. I decided to have a dander at the PS1 games. There was a case there (no disc inside) and underneath the disc holder was a creepy pair of eyes. It perked my interest. I picked it up and looked at the back.
It was Silent Hill, which I had been looking for for some time, priced $9.99.
I immediately took it to the counter, and the guy rang it up in the till.
"Weird," he says. "It says here it only costs a cent. I guess I'll change it..."
His manager happened to be walking by, and he said "It says a cent on the computer, that's what the kid'll pay." So I got what would become one of my favourite games for a cent.
Funny thing is, I didn't have any change, so I bummed a penny off my dad. I left a happy camper.

Unreal Anthology I got for 5 dollars, had Unreal, Unreal II, Unreal Tournament ('99), Unreal Tournament 2004.

Also this great game pack I got several years ago...Quake II, Dark Reign II, Heavy Gear II, and Battlezone II...for 5 dollars. Was amazing.

Fallout & Fallout 2, I got for a 10 dollar pack together. Mechwarrior 3 + Mechwarrior 3 Pirate's Moon, got for a 10 dollar pack together...

Trying to think of more, but those are the big ones. I got the whole Silent Scope series for 5 dollars, the whole Commandos series for 5 dollars...Shop around here was closing and had them on clearance.

I paid 99 cents for Virtua Tennis, new and shrink wrapped. It was in a thrift store. Great game for Dreamcast.

A little late did I realize there was a whole bin of awesome N64 games for sale for $1 each. Once I started poking through they stopped selling used games pre-last gen.
(I got Goldeneye, Mario 64, Duke Nukem 64, and Mystical Ninja starring Goemon though, but I never found a copy of Ogre Battle 64...the one that got away)

Found a copy of Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War at a TigerDirect store for 5 bucks, also on an unrelated note while hanging at a mall me and my two friends came across a GameStop selling a Fallout 3 GOTY edition brand spanking new for twenty bucks... One of my friends picked it up on the spot... Needless to say I was pissed and my other friend was pissed since I had payed sixty bucks for my GOTY and he had bought the game brand new when it had just been released and then loyally bought all the expansions as they came out...

I got Freespace 1 and 2 a few days ago for $6 thanks to Good Old Games. I've only played a little bit so far, but I can already tell they're quality titles.

Ever since the year started I've obtained some great free titles as well like Desktop Dungeons and World of Tanks.

EDIT: Just remembered one from a few years back when I got Fable: The Lost Chapters for $10 at a brick-and-mortar game store. I honestly think it was a mistake on their part, since other copies of the same game were being sold for $40 (it was still a fairly new release at the time). My guess is they thought it was just an old copy of Fable without the new content, so they mistakenly put the wrong price tag on it. I didn't question their decision, and neither did the employee that processed the transaction. It was definitely a bargain, since I spent many dozens of hours playing that game.

I once picked up a sold out software version of system shock 2 for 5 quid i then managed to loose it a couple of years a go and had to pay 30 quid for a used copy of amazon cos sold cos no budget companies seem to do it any more.
