Title says it all, amigos.

For me, it's MadWorld, on the Wii.

It's a wonderfully violent game, and it's quite humorous, and in all honestly, it's a great game all around. I think of it as a "God of War" on the Wii.

But unlike God of War, MadWorld's story isn't very good. Sure, the mild twist ending was not what I expected, but in all honestly, none of the characters are particularly deep. Jack, unlike Kratos, is in the business for the money he gets for killing people.

However, while the story is what keeps me from having babies with the game, but the gameplay and humor (if rather crude) is still enough to make me wanna play the game every once in while.

So, my question to you, Escapists, what are your games like this? Games that you love, but have something that keeps you from REALLY loving them? And what's your reason?

Starcraft 2.

I love the game, but it's a delicate balance between winning and having fun. Especially considering how I despise rushes, cheese, four-gate all ins, two barracks all ins, etc.

So I play the fun way, and make wins through skill; ergo, the balance aspect of my original statement.

Assassin's Creed 2.
To be honest, I'm not interested in the plot. At all.
It's a fun game, but at a certain point I got tired from jumping and climbing again and again

Mine has to be Resident Evil 4. I LOVE THIS GAME! But... 1. You can't buy ammo from the Merchant 2. Sometimes the game makes you fight zombies and bosses are in small rooms 3. Ashley...fuck her... the only reason I'm keeping her alive is A.It's the point of the game and B. She's Hot
Yeah, hope you don't have the PC version like I do.

Worst Port Ever.

Love the game though, I'm going to play it right now. Without mouse support. Nice work, Crapcom.

Mass Effect 2

I love the story, the characters and the setting, but the gameplay is so monotonous.

I have to agree with this I have been playing through as an Infiltrator using only sniper rifles it is basically a point and click adventure without the challenge.

Crysis.

It's probably the best looking game I've ever played, and once I'd got used to the capabilities of the nano suit it played like a dream... until the last few levels when it goes all to ultra linear hell.

I installed Crysis Warhead the other day and had an absolute blast in the first level... and now I'm almost afraid to keep playing it in case history repeats itself.

World At War. I like the combat and the progressing campaigns and the action and all that, but I can't help but detect a strong undercurrent of "yay America! Yay war! Everyone else is evil murdering bastards!" which really doesn't sit well with my political leanings.

Considering that both MW titles, which I played first, actually have a very strong anti-war undercurrent (regardless of whether it's well executed or not, the intent is clearly there) it felt like a huge leap backwards to play a game where no one but the Americans were allowed to be noble. Apparently even the non-American allies were murdering bloodthirsty psychopaths. It makes this game kind of a guilty pleasure, at best.

Persona 3. I really love the story, the characters, the social links etc. However Tartarus is such a god damned drag. The dungeon itself and mobs are majorily the same just palette swapped throughout Tartarus and there's about 250 floors of it. 250 floors which you HAVE to explore to complete the game. Not to mention you'll bump into new mobs which you haven't scanned before meaning you don't realise they have an insta kill move, and so they'll get a lucky mudo/hama(Chance of insta kill) and your main character will die, causing a game over. Also on the original ps2 version you couldn't control the other party members, which could be very frustrating when party members would constantly try to use Marin Karin or Tentarfoo(Status ailment moves) instead of killing,

Skate 3. I like the game itself but the sterotypical skate slang does grate after awhile. I also kinda wish that growing your skate company was a optional management side-game instead of Earl Hickey and a douchebag telling you "go do this to get a flat sum of board sales, yay for you! Now sell 1 million of the things."

Star Wars: Battlefront II

It's awesome when you're playing with friends, but single player is absolutely maddening. AI teammates are dumb as a box of rocks. I've seen entire squads toss grenades at a tank coming straight at them, only to kill themselves because they didn't get out of the blast radius when the vehicle got too close.

The AI also fails hard when it comes to handling different classes effectively. Commander units will take the first opportunity to deploy their recon droids, even when they're under fire. They'll just stand there waiting to be shot while the droid ineffectively plinks away with its peashooter of a blaster. Also, playing as the Republic is always an uphill battle because apparently Clonetroopers are trained to hurl themselves directly into a Droideka's line of fire.

Splinter Cell: Conviction

* froths at the mouth and emits sounds of rage* I am sorry about what they did to you Sam. I am sorry what they did to you Grim. I am sorry what they did to you, dear Splinter Cell, for all the mutilation you had to endure during Double Agent and the horrible story they forced upon you in Conviction.

...

You're still awesome though. Especially Archer and Kestrel.

*stomps her feet and lets out a cry of anguish* I'm sorry what they did to you two guys.

Yeah. That's pretty much my view on the latest Splinter Cell title.

Try it on Insanity. It becomes a lot more tactical and is a real challenge.

I'm beginning to sound like broken record...

Mass Effect 2.

I love the game, but I hate how simplified it became. It's not really much of an RPG...
