Games that you love that don't give you much to talk about.

A game I backed on Kickstarter. It's a squad based tactics game called Enemy. Its a competent game, has decent difficulty settings and doesn't pull much bullshit on the player. I can count on one hand they times I've lost dudes due to the elements outside of my control out of all the runs I've done (including during the beta).

That being said, its a retro styled squad based tactics game. Out side of AARs, there isn't really much to talk about.

Holy cow testicles...I forgot this thread was made...sorry! Am terrible at this type of online consistency :(

Geometry wars (2 or 3).

I would say more about it, but you've pretty much seen the entire premise from the first minute of that clip. Well, perhaps the fact that that player makes it look more boring than it has to be.
Totally agreed, that is a series that needs to be seen in motion without explanation ;)

It's something of a love-it-or-hate-it case and it's pretty hard to describe why it's satisfying to pull off a series of smooth stunts or a perfect combat sequence. Nor is there really any narrative or thematic meat to sink one's teeth into.
I loved the first, but is the sequel actually any good? I've already played Dying Light in which seems to allow more freedom and...umm...content. have always appreciated free climbing games as it appeases something deep within yearning for escape.

DriveClub and NFS Hot Pursuit for me. Played those games a ton but yeah, what is there to talk about? They're racing games. :p Though I'll add one thing which is that I wish there were more online race or chase games. The 1 vs 1 Interceptor mode in NFS Hot Pursuit is the most fun I ever had with an online game.
Heyyyy *brofist!* (Sorry, that was your face, sorry! I am an inaccurate brofister) Hot pursuit is literally the only game I have not yet played out of the series for completely silly reasons. It sounds like I really missed out there. :( I still wish for the days of burnout instead of red for speed though. They are all good in their own way, but never quite that level of greatness. Have you seen the strange online of DriveClub? With the timed restrictions on all randomised selections, if you pick too late...DENIED!...If you pick early, well here's a lovely countdown for you to gauge your slowly fading life. Nooo! I wants to race now goddamnit! Not play some self inflicted waiting time! But yeah, great racing game regardless. :)

I should add Transformers devastation which looks and sounds like a load of ass biscuits. Glowing reviews mentioned everything great about it, oh they tried, bless them. It's just that everything great about it is all discovered upon actually playing the damn game instead. I don't even care for the story...as soon as it gets back into the action, I'm like "bring it onnnn bitches! I don't know why you so angry (it's about terraforming earth again, isn't it? Oh silly transformers) but I'm gonna kick your ass a thousand ways to a catholic Sunday!" The gameplay is just such a cathartic experience, I am still surprised by how much that alone can draw me in. Loved the war for Cybertron series too, without any nostalgia to influence my opinions there. ;)

Battlefield 4. Its a fun game, the poster boy for devs getting their shit together and fixing their games. They've added quite a lot of free DLC and have been offering the paid DLC for free. The game was the golden standard for netcode until Overwatch came out. There is so much shit in the options menus that PC gamers get turned on when the press Esc. It actually has a server browser when most games out there don't.

But at the end of the day its nothing unique, its simply a very polished and balanced Battlefield game that doesn't offer anything new.
I missed this, sorry. Yes, absolutely love battlefield 4 multiplayer! It is one of the few (maybe only) multiplayer grind fests that feels like every match will always be something completely different. So many problems to solve on the fly, it's more nuts than the expected GTAV online experince, Have been recently practising the medic role after much practice at sniping, very fulfilling stuff...but does make me swear out loud a few times. The battlefield 1 beta is very promising. What is your preferred role so far?

If there are any, they are so unable to talk about I cannot think of any. I dont know if its because I can talk about any game I love, or if I just tend to love games I can talk about at length.
There must be at least one anomaly...somewhere within you! Look deep inside yourself Luke, err, sorry...Saelune! Something you enjoy that you know trying to explain the experience to anybody through words alone will not be enough to portray how it feels. Not enough to break through initial cynicism of the average cynic. ;)
Eh, I feel pretty confident I can talk about whats great about the games I find great.

Mystical Ninja is a fun action platformer set in Edo Japan where the antagonists are European Aliens who want to turn Japan into a theater stage.

Dark Cloud 2 is a fun action dungeon-crawler RPG with town building and tons of depth in a fun interesting world, that has a bit of everything and does it all well.

Tenchu Z, a game where you're a ninja and actually do ninja stuff. Something far rarer than it should be!

And dont get me started on Morrowind (or do, cause ya know, I can talk about it forever).

Only games I can think that are hard to explain are because they are so weird I dont know where to start, like say, Deadly Premonition, which is a horror investigation game like Silent Hill...except when it wants to be GTA...except when it wants to be something else from that!

Im a passionate person and I enjoy discussing my passions.
I get what you mean and I agree definitely to an extent. I guess what I intended to say (because anything considered great can be explained at length by a passionate and eloquent enough person for as long as they desire) is a game that no matter how many variations of words you can conjure to describe your feelings on the experience, it still needs to be played before the words can stand out amongst the internet hyperbole in which we all must endure. :)

I loved the first game as a flawed gem, I consider the sequel better but still flawed.

Going into the details would take a substantial post. (Might make a thread on it actually.)

I'd say it's a lot better than Dying Light, but in different ways. The running is better. The combat is better, but only if you take the time to get decent at it. (It's weird, the combat is very forgiving meaning it's possible to get through the fights while still being bad at them but doing it that way will make you feel like a clumsy oaf. When/if you get good at it you feel like a little human wrecking ball.) However as an open-world game it's distinctly lacking.

I'd have to say Einhander. It's a 2.5D shoot 'em up game released by Squaresoft on the PS1. You pilot a ship that can pick up certain weapons from enemies and use them. It has some great music and is pretty damn fun.

And that's pretty much everything you can say about it. It doesn't really have a deep lore or history. There really aren't characters to analyze.

Never heard of that one. Is it on the psn now service do you know? Or any sequels or spin-offs for the world?
Well, I looked up some info. And I can say that is on the Japanese PSN Store. But not anywhere else. I'm not sure if it's playable via Playstation Now. I'd tell you to try Amazon, but the copies I found ranged from $60 to over $500. This is one of those moments I'd loan it to you if I actually knew you.

Nor are there spinoffs or sequels. I read they were developing a sequel at one point, but it got shelved.

I guess, all you can do is try to get it off the Japanese PSN or hope you get lucky and find it in some shop for a decent price (I actually found Attack of the Saiyans in a Gamestop for $20).

It's a great game, but I would never tell you to buy it for any amount that high. It must be rare.
Wow...that is far beyond the echo the dolphin Dreamcast game search I delved into before the internet was a common thing. Are we still not allowed to talk about emulators here? ;)

Oh yes, it does have its' flaws, especially that generic ending, and dying light moreso from its sandbox nature alone. I do remember being disappointed to find out that game had no horizontal wall runnning mechanics. I guess there were some technical issues that got in the way because am almost certain it was an originally intended feature from the old trailers.
The lack of sandbox isn't much of an issue really, it's always worth knowing before diving in though. Temper one's expectations and such!
The CCQ of the original was always a joy, didn't it have that animation where you could do the Matrix's Trinity shotgun kick over the shoulder leading to a satisfying spine removal surgery? Or am I imagining that? Well the hand to hand was pretty damn good either way.

How much does EA EA-up the game though? Is it best waiting for a game of the year edition or have they stuck to merely the sole release? Have decided this appears a title that will appeal greatly, flaws accepted! :)

Actually... almost not at all.

(Depends what you mean by that I guess. I can only guess here.)

It needs Origin if you're on PC and there's two items of the most token cosmetic DLC I've ever seen (roughly equivalent to a couple of sprays in Overwatch, no idea why they bothered). There are "social features" that amount to leaderboards and a thing where you can create a custom time trial that other people can attempt. (You can turn it off, I suggest doing so or the markers will clog up your map.)

As far as I'm aware there's no DLC or expansions planned. So when you buy it is just a matter of how much you want to wait for the price to drop. It's currently down about 40% from the release price.

I get the impression the game was a relatively cheap passion project that EA let slip through to keep the DICE employees from dying of creative stagnation between Battlefield games. I kinda doubt we'll ever see another one in the forseeable future. Can't find any data on sales beyond one press release from EA saying it was "meeting their expectations" which could mean fucking anything.

This...this cannot be! How could Mirror's Edge of all things avoid the EA treatment?? ..., I am honestly astounded...no joke. Even a passion project I would have expected some sort of vague buggery they so compulsively add. Origin is but a light guff of their usual practices. We must somehow highlight this title to them as an indicator of how to do games respectfully. But...I don't know how. Also, it probably keeps a lot of people in work, splitting games up and perpetuating a model of "more! Chunks of what you like...more!!" Artistic vision ain't no garunteed income. :( Thanks for the recommendation! :D

Definitely medic. I play on console, and am one of the few who choose to play without aim assist. So the DMRs you are given in BF1 were a godsend for me. They are what I feel make the game more skillfull than BF4. You need accuracy, and at the ranges you are engaging at, aim assist won't help too much.

There are rumors that the medics will be swapping weapons with the assaults, and if that's true, I will stick with whatever class has the DMRs.
